If you love or even like British films or quirky films, please consider watching The Lobster. You can view it on Amazon Prime or you can go and try to search on a different site. Amazon is where I watched the movie and it is highly recommended, along with it being safer from viruses than most free watching movie sites.
A quick synopsis of the movie is that in society you have to have a partner, you can be a man and a man, woman and a woman, or a man and a woman. If you and your partner separate you then have forty-five days in various hotel like buildings to find a new partner. In this hotel you can identify only as homosexual or heterosexual, there is no bisexual option. Once you check in, that's day one of forty-five and your clock starts ticking. If you do not find a mate within this time frame, you will be turned into the animal of your choice. If you decide to break any rules of the hotel, then you will be punished or turned into the worst animal. What do you think the worst animal is?
The synopsis of the movie makes it sound like a thriller or a horror movie but it really is far from it. It is slightly comedic with a decent amount of graphic language, if my memory serves me a right, there is some graphic scenes too. Graphic is up to the watcher though, I wouldn't let children watch this movie for a number of reasons.
The top reason is the graphic scenes, but you can always cover their eyes. The other one would be simply because they wouldn't understand. You need a more developed mind to watch this movie because you need to be taken out of the society we live in now. Now, it is becoming more appropriate for people to live alone, but in this movie it's not appropriate at all.
If you're a psychology major or even slightly interested in the mental aspect of people, this movie is also for you. If you have taken an introduction to psychology course, you could watch this movie as well. The people in The Lobster really go above and beyond to have something in common and the anger they can feel for those who became into animals is surprising.
I've wanted to watch this movie since I first saw an advertisement on Youtube and I'm glad I could watch it on Amazon Prime. It is such a good movie and it has left a mark in my mind. To anyone deciding to watch this movie and would like to have a discussion about it, I'm always open to opinions. You can find me on Facebook if you want to message me. Happy watching!
