The Literal Death Of Our Society

Protecting an object more than a human life.

The Literal Death Of Our Society
The Progressive Cynic

Traveling at a rate of 1,000 mph, this could be the death of our society. Can be found in the hands of criminals, suspected terrorists, and the mentally unstable. But, we are defending their right to own it. Yes, it's a gun.

The most highly debated object in the U.S. currently, but let's get down to some facts. Firstly, there is absolutely no restriction for someone on the no-fly list (suspected terrorist) to maintain guns. Now, I'm not saying they won't obtain it regardless; however, if they are suspected of terrorism and they have illegally obtained a gun- well there's a warrant for an arrest right there. Oftentimes attacks happen because we don't have legit reason to arrest the suspect. Well, here's an obvious reason.

Also, I hate the idea of, "They will obtain the weapon regardless." What kind of country do I live in where we believe that we shouldn't enact change because "it'll happen anyways." I refuse to be silenced. I will not wait for change. I will not wait to mourn the next mass shooting. Innocent children, handicapped, people worshiping, people celebrating love: where do we draw the line? Where do we realize that this is a problem?

People don't even feel safe attending church -- the most sacred of places -- due to the rise in gun violence. In particular, my church has bans against large bags of any kinds including diaper bags for safety precautions. Is that not sickening?

You can keep your Second Amendment. Frankly, if it was up to me, I would take them all away. But, I realize that it's a freedom and you can keep your protection and hunting weapon. I will just no longer stand to live in a country that puts the rights to a weapon above human life.

"Guns don't kill people, people kill people." Sure, let's go with that argument. Guns just make it a lot easier and limit the reaction time to seconds. Sure, you can look at the cartoons of a gun laying on a counter and it not killing anyone. But, you could do that with anything. Have a person do a trigger pulling motion and suddenly they are defenseless. Guns are responsible for Aurora, Newtown, San Bernardino, Charleston, and, most recently, Orlando.

Now let's go with the argument "one good guy with a gun can take out the bad guy." Well, plenty of guns are in circulation in the U.S. and none of these attacks were stopped. Because no one should have to worry about going to a movie theater and needing protection. No one should have to worry about their kindergartner attending school and needing protection. No one should have to worry about attending bible study and needing protection. No one should ever have to worry about going anywhere and needing protection.

"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind." And that's exactly what a lot of America has gone: blind. Blind to the idea that sick, emotionless criminals are obtaining guns and making a mess of this country.

No one, absolutely no good person, should worry about gun control. Gun control is meant to restrict criminals, the mentally unstable, and those on the no-fly list.

So, no one is taking away your write to bear arms. No one is taking away your protection or hunting tools. We are not impeding on your right. We are impeding on the right of those who have proven that they cannot handle the responsibility of a weapon which has the potential to release thousands of bullets in a second.

So, I praise those Senators who are fighting for a vote.#NoBillNoBreak #NoFlyNoBuy

The Facts

States with stricter gun control laws have fewer deaths from gun related violence.

We rank number one in guns per capita and have the highest homicide-by-firearm rate in developed countries.

We need change. Hopefully this article has convinced you of that.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
