It's all coming to an end. You've waited four long years for this, and now it's just weeks away. The big day. The one day every senior looks forward to since the first day of school: graduation.
It seems like just yesterday you were a wide-eyed freshman, almost falling over from your oversized backpack. Today, all you have with you is a pencil and a notebook. It's your last first day of school, and you can't contain your excitement. It's finally your time to be the top of the food chain. But with the excitement comes a little pang of sadness you feel inside your stomach.
Football season rolls around, and the weather starts getting chillier. You live for the nights where school spirit and hot cocoa are the only things keeping you warm. You want to go to every single game and after party, hoping to lock them away in your memories. Soon, the last home game comes around, and you cheer until your voice goes hoarse and you savor every single second of your last high school football game.
We can't forget about your sports. Varsity or JV, you still love what you do. You give every game or every performance your all, because that voice at the back of your mind keeps reminding you it's almost coming to an end. Eventually, the end does come, and you go out onto that floor for the last time. Your team has almost become like a family to you, and it almost hurts to know you have to leave them behind.
You make as many memories as you can with your underclassman friends. You just can't imagine going a day without talking to them in the halls. No more classes together, and no more getting excited on partner projects knowing exactly who you are going to be with. To your friends who are a few grades younger, you've grown to almost feel like an older sibling. You wonder who's going to be there to give them advice or lend their help without you there.
However, with all your lasts come some firsts. You're basically an adult now. You're learning how to handle yourself and do "grown-up" things. Some are off to college, getting tattoos, or living on their own. You've decided on your future, and your stomach is flipping with a mixture of terror and excited anticipation. With one journey coming to an end, another begins. You've made wonderful memories and you're on your way to make so many more. It's time for you to be responsible on your own in the real world. You still have your whole life ahead of you, so make the best of it and enjoy the moments while they last.
