The tragedy that struck in Parkland, Florida recently still is ringing around the world. If we've learned anything during this time, it's that it's time to take a stand for stricter gun laws. No other group of people are taking this more seriously than the students who were forced to face this senseless act of violence. Students have taken to social media to voice their concerns over gun laws, urging friends and families to call their senators, and most importantly, vote. However, as we've learned in the past couple of days, no one in higher power is taking them seriously.
I, for one, am completely outraged by this fact.
These kids are our future. Most aren't even old enough to vote, and yet they are still voicing their opinions and organizing walkouts and stand-ins nationwide. They are taking down Congressmen on Twitter and on phone calls. They're the shining beacon of hope in this mess of a world and I admire each and every single one of them. They are the ones that are going to create change. They are going to help deliver a world that we can actually be proud of again.
Yet, they are consistently criticized by "right wing" politicians, and even some left wing. They are being called actors sent to stir up some drama in the United States (as if there isn't enough already). These are CHILDREN that GROWN MEN are calling ACTORS.
Honestly, if that doesn't get you upset, I don't know what to tell you. Our children are smarter than most of our adults and are being ridiculed for absolutely no reason. It's shameful.
What we, as an entire community, need to realize is that these kids are going to change the world, whether anyone against them wants change or not. It’s inevitable. These kids who have faced unspeakable tragedy and are using their voices and their anger for the greater good. They want a better world for themselves and for their future families. Why wouldn’t you want that for yourself?
Wherever you stand on this debate, please know this... These students are the bravest people I’ve ever seen and they are going to change the world.
There is finally something to find hope in.
