The Journey Inward

Embrace your inner being.

The Journey Inward
Erin Landry

The most important journey someone can embark on is the journey inward. This is where one discovers the truest form of his or her self. I have found that deep within our souls is where the truth rests, what calls to our hearts, what moves our spirits, and what gives life to the very essence of our being. As we journey inward, we learn to embrace ourselves and reflect our lights outward into the universe. The journey is about understanding who you are and what your purpose is. I am on a journey towards healing, love, improvement and peace. I have traveled to many incredible places and I have left pieces of my heart wherever I go. I have connected to many people and made memories that I will cherish forever. I am beginning to understand myself and my purpose.

I have learned many invaluable lessons that have helped me along the journey. These lessons are in no particular order because they are all so important to living a life of awareness and peace. The first lesson I’ve learned is that quality is better than quantity. I would rather have a few loyal friends than a bunch of unreliable and dishonest friends. I keep my friend circle small because there is less drama, less gossip, and I know that those people will be real and authentic. Another lesson I’ve learned is that being rich in experiences and memories in more rewarding than being rich with fame and fortune. Making connections with people, traveling the world, and pursuing what you love to do teaches you to be humble and have gratitude for the things you have in your life.

It is important to be patient with yourself and with others. Healing and awareness is a process that requires time and willingness to change. Everyone is on their own journeys, battling their own wars, and showing compassion towards them and trying to understand their struggles is a helpful step towards peace. If you fall along the journey, it’s okay. Everyone falls, it’s just part of who we are as human beings. It’s okay to cry, take some time to understand your pain, to write down your feelings and let it out. But, the important part is that you get back up and begin again. Everyday is a gift from God, a second chance to be the person we were meant to be. Always have faith that God has a plan for you and you are exactly where you need to be.

Don’t be afraid to be yourself and let your light shine. Your vibes and being will allow the right people to gravitate towards you. What you send into the universe will eventually return to you. If you give love, love will return to you. If you have negative thoughts, negativity will follow you throughout your day. Get rid of all the negativity in your life whether that means negative thoughts, negative people, or negative places. You will start to notice that your life is more peaceful and you’ll realize that you have the power to create your own happiness. Don’t allow your self worth and attitude to depend on people or objects other than yourself. You determine how your day and life are going to play out. And one of the most important things I’ve learned is that we are in a constant state of change and growth. We are always learning, moving, and experiencing.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
