No one deserves to be manipulated. No one deserves to be walked all over. No one deserves to be belittled. But everyone deserves a solid group of friends who treat you with the respect and love that you have earned. If your friends don’t do that for you, let them go. Your happiness matters too.
Fake people don’t surprise me anymore. Loyal people do. Therefore, make sure to pick the people you love and surround yourself with carefully. Because you take pieces of the people closest to you. You pick up their quirks, their mannerisms, and their attitudes. You are a reflection of them, and that is very, very important.
I don’t understand, why people acted as if you killed them, when they were the ones who shot you at the back of your head. I don’t understand why people keep on telling you to shout everything you feel, when they covered your mouth with their hand if you attempted to speak. I don’t understand why people wanted you to listen to what they were saying, when at the same time they lend you their earphones and raised the volume of the music at its maximum range. I don’t understand why people keep on making promises, as if the ones they made before, which had broken, didn’t even matter.
I don’t understand why people told you they were sorry, but they didn’t even admit what they have done wrong. I don’t understand why people just wanted you to forget all the painful things so easily, as if an overnight sleep can wash away all your memories. I don’t understand why people hurt you so much, and in the end they still told you that they love you and they can’t take it if you leave them alone. I don’t understand why people claimed to be your friend, but they keep on saying awful things about you behind your back.
I don’t understand why people hated to see you alone in a closed dark room, when they didn’t even want to open the door with the key they were holding all this time. And, I don’t understand why people complained so much about something they haven’t completely understood. There are a lot of things about friendship that I don’t understand, but I am learning. I am learning the importance of friendship, finally, after all these years.
You have to let some people walk out of your life sometimes, but don’t let that stop you from appreciating every single moment you had with them because they made you happy at some point in time. Sometimes irrationality and mental illness can blind a person but you have to let them figure it out, don’t cause a fight, always be respectful and mature, and have pride and class. Whoever is meant to be in your life will find their way back –just remember to be grateful for those that are right in front of you that have not left. After all, friendship is easier made than kept.
People we once saw everyday become a distant foggy memory. Empty spaces don’t stay empty for long because new faces and genuine hearts from new places join our side, and join our journey. And there is nothing wrong with that, because at the end of the day, we all just want to live well and prosper with the right people.
“A real friend is someone who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.” – Walter Winchell
