Ever since I was young my mom always told me to say, "please" and "thank you." I was taught to appreciate what I had because it was more than what many others had, and it was always important to let those who are helping you know just how much what they are doing means to them. I was taught never to even open up a present and look unamused or unappreciative. It is importance of showing your appreciation for those who are always there to help you is important to do for yourself, and for others.
The amount of help many people give you that goes without being noticed is unreal. Can you count how many times someone has helped you out and you haven't given them quite the appreciation they probable deserve for the task? Showing appreciation for others makes it easier for them to show appreciation to you in return. One of the main reasons people sometimes don't show appreciation for others is because they feel unappreciated themselves.
Appreciating people is good not only for others, but for yourself as well. This helps you find your values and find yourself. The more specific you are important you are about what you value, the more likely you are to appreciate what you have, and the more likely you are to appreciate others.
I hope that everyone who ever truly helps me, and I mean in any way knows just how much I truly do appreciate and value what they do for me. Everything from a roommate taking care of you when you are sick, friends calling to make sure you have woken up in time in the morning when they know you have to make it to a big interview, friends who make supper and invite you over just because they haven't seen you in a while and want to do something for you, people who will help you with homework just because they have previously had a class or know a little bit about the subject is something to be appreciated. These kind of people are the people you need to be thankful for. These are the type of people you want to keep around. Showing how much you appreciate everyone who helps you is imperative to your life, and your future.
