Although there are various organizations against pit bull fighting such as the ASPCA, The Humane Society, Toledos Pet Bull Project, and many others, pit bull fighting operations include more than tens of thousands of people in America. Despite the immorality involved, it brings in a huge profit just as any other large-scale business would. When these people se pit bulls, they see money bags as opposed to actual animals who are suffering.
Pit bull fighting is extremely similar to cock fighting. Two pit bulls are placed into a ring and forced to fight to the death. Bets are placed and whoever placed bets on the winning dog cashes out. One dog is left dead while the other could be mangled beyond recognition. They never are able to build trust towards their owner or other animals and rehabilitation for these dogs is a long and brutal process. The only thought going through the pit bull's head is survival.
I've encountered a couple of dogs who had previously been saved from the horror that is dog fighting. When I tried to approach the dog cautiously, the owner told me to stay away because she does not trust any people and she will attack me, which is such a contrast from the pit bull I own. The pit bull I own has never had his ears clipped and jumps on everyone who passes because he wants to give them hugs and kisses. The female pit bull just stood by his side and seemed cold and unapproachable as if she was always on the defense. It was difficult to see this dog so closed off.
These monsters involved in pit bull fighting turn these beautiful animals into killing machines who distrust everyone but themselves. Pit bulls are NOT money bags. Pit bulls are just like any other dog. They are nothing to be feared. They are beautiful, sweet animals that are a product of their upbringing as any other dog is. Do not be afraid of them unless told by the owner. They are a family dog just as much as a golden retriever is. If you can, support the efforts against pit bull fighting. You'll help save some of the beautiful dogs shown below.
