This is the story of two brother's who find out that their dad is going to lose their house and they must find a desperate way to save it. In the meantime, a ruthless crime family calling themselves the "Fratellis" have somehow escaped from jail and are now hiding in a town of Astoria, Oregan. The Goonies are a group of friends living in a village, the groups leader Mikey Walsh, his older brother Brand and gang members include Andy, Data, Stef, Mouth, and Chunk.
Their leader is Michael "Mikey" Walsh, and they are enjoying their last weekend together as a system of contractors have bought their neighborhood and are considering on transforming it into a golf course. Mikey one day stumbles upon a hidden map inside a picture frame while playing inside the attic. He is intrigued by the stories of One-Eyed Willie that his father used to tell him. He figures that if they find out where this treasure is located they can possibly rescue their home. The only thing stopping them is the Fratellis who are also in search for the treasure after secretly overhearing the Goonies talk about it. The story quickly unfolds and the search for the ultimate treasure awaits.
"The Goonies" is filled with hilarious moments that capture the magic of the '80s. From the music of Cyndi Lauper to the Gags of Chunk, this is one movie that will not bore you to death. I don't why I always feel like I'm inside the movie whenever I watch this particular film. Perhaps, it's the adventure side of me that gets captivated by the character. I feel as if I am a Goony, as well. It weird kind of experience that is hard to explain, but not many films grab a hold of me like the Goonies.
One of my favorite scenes is the opening shots where the audience gets the first look of Chunk. He is really enjoying his snacks, but he get's wildly over-excited and smears all of his chocolate ice cream across the window. I can repeat this scene over and over and still won't get tired of it. This shot perfectly describes Chunk in the best way possible. It's extraordinary how one scene can develop a character so much. As an audience member, we can dive into his personality traits and how he is a clutz sometimes. "
Awww Sh*t!!!"-Chunk Skip to 3:25
Another favorite scene of mine is when Mouth forces Chunk to do the Truffle Shuffle. The way Chunk grabs his belly and how he really puts his all into the Truffle Shuffle makes me laugh at loud. His face expression is just hilarious. See for yourself. I have no words to describe it.
Do it!!!!
The Goonies is one of my all time favorite films of the 80s. It captures the heart of what a children adventure movie should focus on. Nowadays we really don't have many movies that make us remember the fun of playing outdoors and going out on adventures. I hope one day a second adoptions bring a new cast of Goonies into our hearts. On another note, I want to formally announce my retirement from The Odyssey. This is my last piece for you all and I'm thankful for all your support. It's time for me to put down my Clark Kent glasses away and begin my new journey in life. Farewell!!-"Goonies Never Say Die!!"'
