The Good And Bad Of Christmas Break

Christmas break from college means something different to everyone. For some it’s a legitimate break, for others it’s a break from school to work to make money, and for others it's seen as an opportunity to sleep in for a month. This is a list of reasons why you may have a love/hate relationship with winter break:

  1. Yay! You’re done with finals, now you have to work so you can eat the next semester.
  2. What do you pack for break?
  3. Do you bother unpacking or just live out of your suitcase?
  4. Do you spend time with friends, sleep, or take the extra closing shifts at work?
  5. Time spent with your siblings makes even the hardest days that much better.
  6. When you hang out with your friends during break it’s like no time has passed.
  7. When break comes, you begin to miss your college friends like crazy.
  8. Your home routine is really different from your college routine and switching between them is a pain.
  9. Holidays are some of the best parts of the break.
  10. No matter how long the break, it always feels short.
  11. Going back to school is always bittersweet.
  • The first few days of break are a much anticipated reward until it sets in that, if you’re like me, you will be working all break for money to use during the next semester.
  • Do you pack almost everything you own and bring your luggage worth of things home or just your backpack? I usually go with the first option and end up wearing the same three things the whole break.
  • This is a question I ask when I see my pile of clothes getting larger and when I grab stuff from my suitcase.
  • A month is a very short time to fit in socializing with everyone you love, working, and trying to sleep.
  • For me nothing is better after a hard day at work than a movie night with my two favorite siblings.
  • When both you and your best friend go to different schools, it becomes a vital part of any break to hang out with them and when you do it's like no time has passed.
  • You go from seeing them every day to being happy if you text them every few days since you both are so busy.
  • At home, your family has a different schedule than you do at school, so when you first come home you lay in bed wide awake because you can’t sleep. When you come back to school you can barely stay awake until 11:30.
  • You get to see your family, friends, and if you’re lucky, your family is happy and healthy to make the holidays memorable.
  • Whether it be six weeks or six days, the break never feels like it was long enough.
  • When break ends and you have to go back to school. Its exciting because it means a new semester and seeing your friends again but you have to say goodbye to your work friends and friends from home.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
