Unless you have been living under a rock for the past year or so, then you would know that the new "Star Wars" movie has just been opened in theaters. For the majority of us, a new chapter for fans has begun, with plenty of new ones joining the fever that is Star Wars. Although I did in fact dress up as Darth Vader and go to the Thursday night premiere, I most certainly was not the only one as so many others were doing the same. As I sat there in the theater, surrounded by darkness and the smell of buttery popcorn goodness, the classic yellow titling of Star Wars appeared before my eyes. Cheers rang out and tears were shed from many. And so, the next chapter in the series began as we watched and witnessed, with excitement in our hearts, sitting on the edge of our seats.
As the movie came to an end, it was safe to say that it was in fact, awesome. No, I won't be that guy who spoils what happened. I don't want to be beaten up by a bunch of people in Jedi and Princess Leia outfits. I will say that it was amazing but strange in that you have so many old faces in this movie combined with new and fresh faces of the franchise. Plus, it is a different time. From episode 6 till now, more than 30 years have passed and seeing special effects go a long way is spectacular. Furthermore, the fact that Disney has taken over the production and rights to the franchise has created it's own magic as well.
Star Wars has become more than just a series of movies but a phenomenon that has impacted the entire world. But what is it that has made this saga what we know and love today? Is it the large space battles? The fierce saber duels? The cute and adorable robotic companions?
Or perhaps, it is the Force?
What is the Force anyways? It seems to be something so vague and mysterious but at the same time something we can all relate to. It is a religious notion but at the same time isn't. While we joke at times, the Force seems to be a realistic thing that surrounds us and is something that we all can seem to relate to. Such an example is the balance between good and evil that we face everyday. The Light Side and the Dark Side. Or perhaps how an obstacle that may seem improbable to stop *cough Death Star* can be defeated with hope, hard work and determination.
So whether you want to dive deep into the meaning of Star Wars or not, one can at least appreciate the power that is has in entertaining and shocking so many people. It is hard to think that upon the original idea and creation of Star Wars, many said that what George Lucas had thought up was going to be a terrible idea. Fortunately, they were wrong.
