Prologue: Part II

''Any side effects?'' asked Davidson. ''No, but that does not mean that vaccine is useless. We need to get a hold of an infected host!'' said Dr. Gerald. As top scientists to the NIHD, Dr. Gerald and Davidson had unlimited access to the virus and the hosts exposed to it for their own research purposes. The two went to the Quarantine Room and approached one of the organization's human subjects: Raymond Brooks, a convicted felon that was sentenced to death, but was kidnapped by the NIHD instead and placed under dangerous experiments.

Ever since the establishment of the Great Nations, research facilities were secretly granted permission to perform on human experiments on criminals that were facing life sentences or death penalties. These individuals selected would have no trace of their existence return to humanity; a typical lifespan for any participant would be about 2 years in service because of the horrific experiments and treatment they were given in the facility.

Brooks was exposed to a small dosage of the XV-7 virus, but the effects were still severe. He was malnourished, constantly sweating, losing his sight, spastic bodily movements, and exaggerated coughing. This was the result of a microscopic amount of dosage from the virus. A typical XY-7 viral injection was 2 millimeters. The full exposure would cause a dramatic multiplication to the body's white blood and T4 cell count. The initial thought to the vaccine would be a mass increase of antibodies that would kill any harmful agents that entered the body, but had the opposite effect and attack the host's entire body. The full effect from the XY-7 virus is the breakdown of blood cells, deterioration of vital organs, a dramatic temperature increase, and dissolving of the brain.

Dr. Gerald knew that Brooks was the only surviving patient that showed contagious symptoms. Ultimately, he knew that if the vaccine could work against human to human infection, then it could be supportive as an effective cure. Davidson remained in his HAZMAT suit, concerned about an infection, but Gerald removed his headpiece.

Brooks was staring blankly at both of the scientists; ''the virus must have came into contact with the brain, at least he is still breathing'' said Gerald. ''I don't know about this, this is too dangerous for you'' explained Davidson. ''There is no other way, you know that if we did this with other subjects, the organization would ask questions, trust me, I have hope.'' said Gerald as he approached the coughing man. Dr. Gerald was inches away from Brooks' face and had clear exposure to the virus. Then he proceeded to take a small blood sample and injected himself with Brooks' blood.

''Now that I have been exposed by blood borne and airborne methods, we will wait and see what my body does'' said Gerald. He placed his head piece back on and both scientists proceeded upstairs to the laboratory. Davidson agreed to assess all of Dr. Gerald's effects to draw any conclusions. The effects were expected to happen within 24 hours of contagious exposure.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
