With Christmas only a week away, everyone is panicking trying to finish their last-minute shopping. Soon cookies will be baking and reindeer food made. Children all over cannot wait to for Santa and seem to be full of questions. "Where is the North Pole? Can I go to the North Pole? What do elves look like?" Well, for 43 ill children from Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, those questions were answered.
This past Saturday, Delta Airlines gave the children a trip of a lifetime: a flight to the North Pole. The children, who were all battling a form of cancer or blood disease, were first greeted by elves and the Delta pilots. The children boarded the plane, only to meet more elves! Santa's little helpers made sure the children were happy and comfortable during their 45-minute "flight" to the North Pole.
When the merry group arrived, snow, elves and Santa all greeted them! The children made crafts with elves, had snowball fights and were able to whisper to Santa what they wanted for Christmas.
The Huffington Post quoted the "head elf" Alice McNulty in saying, "It is very much a part of the culture at Delta to give back to the communities where we live and work, and with Atlanta being our hometown, we greatly value our partnership with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and look forward to hosting the North Pole event every year."
For both the children and the parents, it was a reminder that this truly is the Christmas season and that there are happier times ahead.
Merry Christmas!
