There's no denying it, dating can be one heck of a roller coaster ride. Be it casual or single dates, or serious relationships, dating is NOT always fun or easy. I am happy to tell you though, that there are plenty of ways to avoid most bumps in the road to dating.

While there are times when it's really just a matter of trial and error, there are still many consistent factors.

Find things you have you have in common with people BEFORE going on a date. This makes date planning easier and establishes a foundation beforehand. Less small talk and awkwardness in the long run.

EYE CONTACT PLEASE. Don't be an awkward freak.

Don't rush things! Work on your friendship before getting involved more romantically.

Seriously though, keep the physical out of it for a while. Especially if you aren't sure that you want to maintain a serious relationship.

There's nothing wrong with taking a step back if there's too much going on. Do what's best for you.

Always keep your goals in mind. If you know what you want, it's easier to focus.

Don't be afraid to discuss plans for the future! If you can't both be mature adults who know where they're heading, then now probably isn't the best time to be seriously dating.

Be willing to try new things! Don't be a stick in the mud. Who knows, you might end up loving it.

PRIORITIZE! If you don't have time, don't try to cram things in! That's not fair to you or your date, and you're not going to have as much fun if you're stressed and thinking about all the work waiting for you after.

You don't have to worry about changing other people, just focus on yourself. Be confident and have fun! Ultimately, if you're doing what you should and being your best self, everything will work out in the end. Don't sweat it!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
