If you're a writer, you know about the sneaky devil that's always lurking in the shadows to ruin your creativity. No, I'm not talking about Loki, the God of Mischief, or Daredevil, the hero of Hell’s Kitchen. I'm talking about writer’s block. Sadly this comes along when a lot of writers are trying to get their story or piece of writing. So when this little block comes along, how are we supposed to get rid of it without pulling our hair out and/or stressing that we won't ever finish our story? Here are some of the ways I deal with this exact situation.
1. Go outside
Get some fresh air for a while. Take a walk and get a view of the scenery around you. Going out and refreshing your mind for a while could help strike up the creativity that's being suppressed.
2. Hang out with your friends
Friends can be a real help. They can spitball ideas. You can come up with a lot of different topics. For me personally, my brain functions more creatively around people. With a lot of the stories I've written, I've obtained most of the ideas for them while I was around my friends. They even help with writing some. Which brings me to my next point.
3. Get a second opinion
Talk to other writers you know to help you with your writing. Collaborating with other writers is great for getting your creative juices flowing. Of course, don't get lazy and let your partner take over for your since it’s a partnership. Share ideas and make the story much better than you ever could've imagined.
4. Search similar content
Odds are you may not be the only one who's tackled what you're writing about. Try reading other content similar to what you're writing about. Reading it may spark an idea. Even if it doesn't you've gained a bit more knowledge on how to tackle your story.
5. Reread what you wrote
You're stuck on where to go with your story. You're freaking out and you're thinking, “How can I possibly finish this amazing piece of literature?” Honestly, reading over what you've written already is the simplest way to get you back in the groove. It could maybe even improve your story.
These are some of the ways I get myself out of writer’s block. Of course not all ways work for everyone, but hopefully some things I do will help some of you aspiring writers.
