This past week at Misericordia, students and outside community members had the opportunity to come to an exciting musical event. In Lemmond Theater on Tuesday night, Misericordia hosted The Celtic Tenors.

The Celtic Tenors is an Irish tenor group consisting of Matthew Gilsenan, James Nelson, and Daryl Simpson. Each of the three men has a distinct voice that, when combined, creates a beautiful symphony. The group performed many different songs from around the globe, introducing audience members to songwriters from other countries. Their commentary was amazing and even educational. I can fully say that I learned something. Throughout the whole performance, they were constantly involving the audience, which gave the performance a more personal and close feel.

The Celtic Tenors' versions of songs were absolutely incredible and their vocals were even more so. The men each contained something special that pull audience members in and keeps them wanting to hear more. Certain songs allowed for audience involvement through clapping or singing the chorus, which was so much fun. There were even songs that had the audience laughing from the groups humor. While absolutely fun, there was also something unique about the group. I personally think it was the fact that each song they sang, they loved and, since they appreciated the song itself, they were able to sing with passion that is lacking in some modern singers. Their voices, songs, and feelings they projected were genuine as well as true. Some of my favorite songs from the night were "From here to the Moon and Back," "Whiskey in a Jar," "Calypso," and of course their acapella version of "Danny Boy" which I put a video of below.

All in all, their performance was spectacular. They also stayed after to meet anyone who wanted to speak with them, and signed their program or CDs. I got the pleasure of meeting the three men who took time to take pictures and listen to a couple of crazy college students blab about their lives. Thank you for coming to our school, and thank you for an incredible music experience.
