Library study rooms all reserved? Tired of studying in your dorm or apartment? Want to work on your group project outside? There are many more places to study on campus besides the library, which can get crowded during midterms and finals week. I’ve found the best study spots at Chapman by accident or just by walking around. Some are more secret and hidden than others, and many of them would work great for group projects. Try them out for yourself!
Panther Digital Den (AF 302)
The Panther Digital Den has PCs, Macs, AND color printing! In addition to a study area with couches, there is a private room that can be reserved to work on individual or group projects. Many students don't know it exists. Reserve this room instead of a library room next time you need to get some work done!
Beckman Student Study Area (BK 303)
Most business majors already know about this. As a non-business major, however, I was pleasantly surprised to find the study area. There are many large tables—perfect for doing homework individually or for a group project. If I can't reserve a study room in the library, this is my backup group project meeting area.
Beckman Lounge Area (3rd floor)
The lounge area is located directly across from BK 303, and to the left of the stairs. There's comfy couches, tables, and plenty of outlets. The large window is perfect for sunny afternoons.
Beckman Fourth Floor
This is my personal favorite because the Beckman Patio is also up here. You can sit anywhere in the hall. I prefer to sit next to the big windows on either side where there's lots of sunlight. The fourth floor is mostly offices, so it's quiet and there aren't many people. Pro tip: The bathrooms are super clean up here.
Doti Study Room
This study room is located to the left as soon as you walk inside. It's not very big, but there's several outlets, the seats are comfy, and there's a large whiteboard. It's great for groups of 2-3 people or a quick study break in between classes.
Doti Patio
The Doti patio is located on the left side of the building. This is a quiet place to study on a sunny day. There are a lot of tables with umbrellas and it's usually not crowded.
The Law School Library/Upstairs Patio
Unfortunately, I don't have any tips on how to sneak in. However, the quietness would make it a great place to study.
Waltmar Theatre Patio
The somewhat hidden location makes it perfect if you need to be alone to study.
