To The Best Friend Who Stayed When I Left

Thank you for always being there.

To The Best Friend Who Stayed When I Left
Mindy Diaz

You were my best friend in a very awkward time of my life: high school. We weren’t always friends but when we did become friends we became close, closer than any of my other friendships ever were. We bonded over little things like books and drama club but I knew I was able to go to you with the bigger things too. We made many memories together. Then the end of senior year came.

I know that it was not easy to hear that I was going to be out of the state for college, especially since you were staying close to our small town. You were always supportive of my decision even though we knew it would make it hard to see each other during the school year. It was a huge change from seeing each other multiple times a day. But here we are a year later and I still consider you my closest friend.

We don’t talk as much as we used to and that’s okay. I know you are always a text or a snap away. One message and we are back to competitively sharing memes or talking about our favorite books. You are there when I need to ramble to. You are also the person I think of when I’m having a bad day. I go through the pictures we took or think about the memories we made and I start to feel better.

This summer I know we will make up for lost time. We will pick up where we left off and continue to make memories because that is the type of friendship we have. Thank you for being the best friend that I could ever ask for. Always know that I will be here the way that you are here for me.

With love,

The best friend who went out of state

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
