Going Greek. If it’s not the best decision you’ve made, you’re doing something wrong.
- Bid Day. Bid day is your first day as a sister in your sorority. It’s sweet- all these girls who love you already, and they don’t really know the true you. But it’s also kinda scary- 80 to 150 girls who are screaming your name (wait, how do they know my name?) and hugging you.
- Big Day. Getting your big is one of the most memorable experiences in your Greek life. Sure you have friends, but the bond of big and little is something different, something special. Made a shitty choice? No worries, her love is unconditional. She’s a shoulder to cry on, a food buyer (when it’s her turn to pay), a (potential) best friend, but also a role model.
- Initiation. The scariest, most nerve racking day. Ever. Despite being so anxious during the entire thing, it is one of the most sentimental days. You were inducted into the sisterhood, officially. And now you get to be added to the actives Facebook page- that is the best part, amiright?
- Formal. Don’t we all love getting dressed up and dancing with our sisters?! From soulja boy to tswift, we can find a way to scream the words (because we can’t sing) and dance.
- Best Friend. Odds are you have met your best friend through your sorority. And if that isn’t true for you, it will happen over the course of your time in the sisterhood. She’s just like you, which causes some arguments, but it also makes for a great time. Thank God for your sorority, right? Or else you wouldn’t have her in your life.
Odds are, if you’re involved in Greek life, these are some of the most precious memories you have. Without your sorority, you would not have met all these women who have helped you find yourself, who have encouraged you to be the best you can be, who have been your shoulder to cry on again and again, who have gone to McDonald's for late night nugget runs with you, who have become not just women in your life, but true lifelong sisters. While they may drive you crazy (most of the time), you would never trade them for anything.
AOT to all my fellow Kappa Delta’s out there. And for the rest of you, you may never know the meaning.
