Needless to say, 2015 has been one hell of a year! With everything from the break up of Jelana, Donald Trump running for president, to the ISIS terrorist attacks, the American people have seen it all. Since the final days of the year are rapidly approaching, it seems only appropriate to accumulate a list of the top memorable events of this insane year. I apologize in advance if these events bring up things you tried to forget, but hey, at least, it's a new year where we all can strive to be better. Right?
Best Moments
1. Discovery of Amy Schumer
Schumer has become the new face of comedy, as her work in the movie "Trainwreck" along with her series on Comedy Central proved why women deserve to be in the entertainment industry. Schumer has also been recognized for her portrayal of her own beauty. She admits to not being a size zero or a “girly girl” like we see with many female celebrities, but is comfortable with her curves and having a more full figured shape. Her body confidence has been supportive to many young girls who struggle with their own body image, showing that not everyone who is in the entertainment industry has to be a size zero to be successful.
2. Caitlyn Jenner
I think that everyone was a little taken back when then first saw the formerly Bruce Jenner on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine introducing herself as Caitlyn Jenner. Jenner is now considered to be the most famous transgender women in the world, and is using her celebrity status to promote awareness for the issue of violence against trans women and the oLGBT community overall. She hopes to be a spokesperson for people who are suffering in silence and an inspiration for people who just want to be true to themselves.
3. Another royal baby was born.
In May of this year, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton presented the newest addition to the family a baby girl, Princess Charlotte. The Princess came a short 21 months after her older brother George, and the two make up quite the adorable family. Now the world will just have to wait to see if the young Prince will ends up like his father or more like his trouble making Uncle Harry.
4. Invention of the hoverboard.
The hoverboard became popular due to celebrities like Justin Bieber and Kendall Jenner. The hoverboard is half segway, half skateboard and the newest form of transportation. For people who like to avoid walking, using a hoverboard only involves standing. Once you get on the device, all you have to do is find your balance and then by adjusting your body, the user can travel forward or backward at their choice of speed.
The Worst
1. Bill Cosby
Someone who was once viewed as a spokesperson for the African-American community and one of the greatest comedians of his generation disgraced himself when sexual assault allegations emerged from countless women across the country. The first the public ever heard of the allegations came in late 2014, but it was in 2015 that the comedian really took a nose dive with his defense. In 2015, Cosby was charged with eight different lawsuits from over 50 women involving counts of rape, drug-facilitated sexual assault, sexual battery, child sexual abuse and sexual misconduct. Cosby even admitted in an interview that he would administer quaaludes to women before engaging in sexual activity with them. It's is safe to say that the American people have changed the way they view the comedian.
2. Josh Duggar
We all know Josh Duggar from TLC’s hit show "19 Kids and Counting," but what America wasn’t aware of Duggar’s dark past. In 2015, it became known that when Duggar was 14 years old, he molested five underage girls, two of which were his sisters. Duggar was forced to confirm this when details of the molestation became known to the public. Duggar is now facing legal troubles and the hit TV show has been suspended from the network.
3. Donald Trump’s immigration plan.
Initially, most of the American people saw Trump's campaign as a political joke. But as the race continued on, it became clear that his chance for the Republican Party's nomination is a real possibility. This was especially surprising after he made comments about Mexican immigrants, "They're sending people that have lots of problems... They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists." He became even more controversial when announced his belief that the United States should not allow Muslim immigrants. His comments have gone from funny to dangerous, and could be seriously putting the character of the United States into jeopardy.
4. ISIS
On Nov. 13, ISIS planned and carried out a series of suicide bombings and mass shootings in Paris. The shootings in the Bataclan Theatre claimed the lives of 130 innocent people and injured 368 people. The attacks were measured to be deadliest France had ever encountered since World War II. The attacks prompted American support and the French army took action: 20 bombs were dropped at ISIS headquarters. Threats from ISIS have not stopped there, recently discovered videos of New York have been released and viewed as a threat. Also, a list has been discovered of cities all over the country that ISIS has plans for.
5. Steve Harvey and Miss Universe
If you didn't watch it on television, then there is no way you haven't seen it online by now. In this year's Miss Universe pageant, Steve Harvey, the host of the show, made the biggest mistake a host could make by announcing the incorrect winner of the pageant by saying it was Miss Colombia when it was actually Miss Philippines. Harvey has been under a lot of criticism since the infamous mix-up, but the host is trying to smooth over all of the criticism by apologizing and trying to make light of the situation.
