SnapChat, the app that allows you to send pictures and videos to your friends for a one-time view, has become extremely popular within the past few years. With its initial release in 2011, Snapchat has grown and made many changes to the app. From SnapChat Stories to messaging, the app has added a lot to keep people interested. One of the most genius features added to the app was SnapChat Live.
SnapChat Live Stories allows people in certain areas to share a SnapChat with the entire SnapChat world.
Millennials are obsessed with traveling. We just want to see the world and everything it has to offer. Unfortunately, many of us are also poor college students who cannot even afford to travel to the grocery store. This is where SnapChat Live Stories come in handy. This brilliant feature, added to SnapChat in 2014, allows users to get a sneak peak at many different places and events. From music festivals to countries, SnapChat Live gives people the opportunity to experience someplace else through their phone.
Since the app launched this feature, over 90 cities and countries have been explored. The greatest part about learning about these places through SnapChat is that it is like getting a tour from a native. People from all around the world show the SnapChat users all the hidden gems of their home towns. Instead of actually visiting a country and only seeing the tourist attractions, SnapChat is allowing us to see the places we would have never noticed before.
Not only is SnapChat giving us our own tours with the natives; they are giving us a view into someone else's world. We get to see how other people live, their traditions and ways of life. We get to see what their typical meal consists of and what they do in their free time. We get to experience the world from another person's eyes for just a few seconds.
And that is beautiful.
Unfortunately, many of the people I have talked to about Live Stories never actually watch them. Only a few people said they do, sometimes. This needs to change. Obviously, it would be a lot better to be able to visit these amazing places in person. But this app is giving us a chance to be there for a moment, to learn about the world and the people in it, and to learn about other cultures and lifestyles. You can always just Google a place and find out information about it, but you will rarely be able to see what a place is like from the people who live there.
SnapChat has changed the game in a beautifully genius way. They made it possible for us to learn about other peoples' lives and the places they call home with just a simple tap on the screen. Even though it is not as good as visiting the real place, it is probably the next best thing.
