Fall is almost upon us. And we all know what the means, ladies are going to be breaking out their Starbucks and their NorthFace jackets and are going to be posting all kinds of beautiful scenery pictures on Instagram. But I have a proposition for everyone this year, instead of calling these kinds of women basic, I have another name for them, women. Here's a list of a few "basic" things women do that we should get off their backs for:
1. Leggings as pants
I know this one to be very true. For being someone who has been lifting weights for six years know, I know the struggle for trying to find a pair of jeans that fit me right. Leggings are the perfect solution for this. They're warm, comfortable, and look good with everything. If you see a lady walking down the street wearing a pair of leggings that probably cost her $100, instead of thinking about if she's making a trip to Starbucks, just let her wear her leggings.
2. Going to Starbucks
Speaking of making a trip to Starbucks, fall is the time when Pumpkin Spice Lattes reappear in almost every ladies hand at least once a season. Starbucks is one of the largest coffee chains in the country, and their seasonal drinks aren't half bad. Everyone enjoys a good cup of joe, so maybe this fall, don't get annoyed with the chick clique in front of you ordering their fall favorite. Just order you drink and go on with your day.
3. Ugg Boots
On another clothing note, Ugg boots are a very popular staple in many "basic" wardrobes. The suede and fur boots are pretty pricey and are comfortable like no one's business. She probably saved up for a while to afford a pair, so I ask you that this year, let her wear what she wants and don't get too concerned with her purchases.
4. Taking Selfies
I bet you that everyone is guilty of taking a bunch of selfies and then deleting them all because they didn't look good. Some girls love the way they look and want to share that confidence and self-love with the world. Please, I beg you, let her take that selfie with her coffee or a turning tree because it probably took her an hour to get ready and she probably loves that she looks that good.
5. Taking their boyfriend/girlfriend's things
I'm guilty of this, as I'm sure a lot of other girls in relationships are. Especially since my boyfriend is 1,000 miles away, I love taking his things to wear around because they smell like him. She probably feels the same way too. And a lot of oversized sweatshirts, flannels, and sweaters are super in this fall, so rock it girl! Let's not get on her for liking her boyfriend/girlfriend and wanting to look cute at the same time.
6. Looking at themselves in the mirror or taking a glance at themselves in a store window
I love that this is in the category of basic. I love that loving the way you look and taking pride in that is seen as a bad thing. I once had a friend tell me to "stop being so basic and stop checking yourself out". We don't work out and do all those squats for nothing. If I catch a glance at myself when walking by a store, I'm gonna check me out, thank you very much.
7. Going to the bathroom in packs
This probably has to be the most fun thing about being basic. We get to go to the bathroom with our friends, make new friends, and maybe gossip a little. Bathroom breaks are necessary when it comes to being basic. So, maybe next time before you give a group of ladies a lecture for wasting time in the bathroom together, maybe it's because you were getting us down.
8. Saying "I can't even" or "Oh my Godddd"
I can't even deal with this one. Ladies like to talk, and if an "I can't even" or "oh my godddd" slips out, don't throw a fit and just let her say what she wants, if you can call her whatever you want based on all these things considered "basic".
9. Being an animal for Halloween every year
Every girl is guilty of being some sort of animal for at least one Halloween of their life. Animals are cute, and so are they. If she wants to be a cat, then let her. It's none of your concern, no need to freak out over some whiskers and ears.
10. Wearing too much makeup
Contouring, highlighter, cat eyes, filling in brows. Women like to look good and makeup is pricey. She probably spends at least a good 30 minutes of her day putting on and taking off her makeup just to do it again the next morning, give a girl a trophy! She probably feels good when she wears eyeliner and contour on her face. So instead of making jokes like, "take her swimming on the first date" when she wears her face the way she wants or saying "you look tired" or "are you sick" when she decides to save some time in the morning, just let her feel good and love herself, and focus on your own face.
Now that you all know some things that you may see this fall that would be called "basic", I'm going to beg you all one last time, maybe instead of focusing on what these women are doing with their lives, just let them be and enjoy the season.
