Let's face it. Facebook has gotten rather uncomfortable in comparison to a few years ago when it was widely used by many youths. This is because Facebook monopolized the social media market during its prime, which was when us college kids were in middle school. Now, there are a plethora of social media platforms that youths find quicker, simpler, and therefore more appealing. Facebook is seemingly now filled with this weird mix of dormant accounts, advertisements, one-a-monthers, and people that still actively use it. I believe that my compilation of the 7 types of people I see on Facebook these days may mildly relate to you.
1. The Lifers
These are the people that still actively use Facebook, dating back to Facebook's conception. They have gone through the cycle of birth, growth, maturity, and decline with Facebook. Mark Zuckerberg thanks you for your loyalty.
2. The Scrollers/Stalkers
You don't recognize these people on Facebook, as you never see their names on your timeline. However, you always see their name in the chat box with a green dot next to their name. This type of person brings lots of ambiguity. They either log on to their Facebook and quietly scroll through their news feed, stalk their long list of ex-lovers (or just any average Joe really), or they just never log off of their Facebook. Whatever it may be, I recognize that it is none of our business quite frankly, but we all see you there with your little head poking out of your turtle shell.
3. The Strongly Opinionated
These are the people you see trying to save the world on a daily basis. They try to coerce you into an argument with their controversial comments. They make their political preferences clear and try their best to persuade their friends to their side on issue that is unresolvable, but they tirelessly lobby with a stubbornness that can be exhausting to readers. That being said, I admire the passion.
4. The Sharers
These people do not type a word on Facebook. They just suffocate you with endless articles, videos, and photos that they share, share, share.
5. The Albumers
These people use Facebook for the sole purpose of uploading pictures and making many different photo albums that contain bottomless pits of photos. The Scrollers/Stalkers from above just adore these people, as they give them substance to prey on.
6. The "Happy Birthday" Wishers
You only see these people of Facebook when they are writing "happy birthday" on someone's wall. I swear these people just log on to Facebook, look at "Today's Birthdays", write the corresponding birthday message, and then log off until tomorrow.
7. The "Oh Yeah, I Have a Facebook and I Just Spent 15 Minutes Trying To Remember My Password So I Might As Well Make The Most of My Time On Facebook Because I Probably Won't Go On For Another Year" -ers
These people go on a spree of posting and answering wall posts, messages, and notifications because they have not been on Facebook in a year. As the reader, you are just remembering that this person does indeed have a Facebook because you have not seen them on Facebook for a while...and then you never see them on Facebook again for another year.
This article is not meant to be offensive, these are just merely observations of mine that I thought might be agreeable to some individuals. If you are guilty of belonging in one of these categories, do not feel bad and don't be discouraged. Just keep doing you!
Fearlessly,
Ben
