Through our lives, we label a variety of people our "best friends." As we age and mature, we're drawn to different personality types, and most people have multiple best friends at a time that are vastly unique from one another. Some you meet in grade school, some you meet in college, but regardless of when you meet, you know they'll be in your life forever.
The Mom/Dad
This is the friend always making sure you remember everything you have to do. They keep you organized and on-task at all times. They're the one asking, "Did you finish that paper that was due last night? Did you go to class today?" They're always the designated driver. They're the ones holding your hair back at the end of the night and force-feeding you Advil in the morning.
The Party Animal
You never see them in class, because odds are, they overslept. This is the person who celebrates Taco Tuesday and Wine Wednesday like they're national holidays. You can always count on them when you're looking for a good time. This is who you text Thursday-Saturday, "What's going on tonight?" They always have an answer, without fail, and by the time you ask them, they've already planned the pregame through the three AM pizza delivery. They know how to have fun, but they don't get out of control. Partying isn't an event to them, it's a lifestyle.
The Genius
If you're ever looking for this person, odds are they're in the library (or whatever other study area they choose). They're good as both a study-buddy and a tutor, and you can always go to them to proofread that paper that's due in an hour. Just because they're hyper-focused on school doesn't mean they don't know how to have a good time. They just make sure all their homework for the weekend is done first, and might spend the whole night stressing that they've forgotten something.
The Childhood Friend
This is the person you grew up with. You met sometime between birth and high school, and you've been inseparable ever since. You share a hometown, so it's convenient to just carpool home for holidays. Most of your conversations consist of, "Remember when," and some stupid story from like seventh grade. They're gonna be around for quite a while, so you have plenty of time to make more memories that turn into stupid stories.
The Co-Worker
You two may not even hang out outside of work, but they're what makes those eight-hour shifts a little less painful. Your boss probably hates when you're scheduled together because neither of you gets anything done. You might go get drinks after work, but for the most part, your friendship only exists in your workplace, which is fine since you have so many other best friends to keep up with.
The Opposite Sex
This is probably the person you go to for the most advice, because your best friend of the opposite gender is the most likely one to give it to you straight. They'll tell you if you look fat in those jeans, or that you should have never tried to be a redhead. The honesty between the two of you is what makes your bond so tight. This person also makes the perfect wingman/woman.
The Soulmate
They're your #1, the end-all-be-all of best friends. They know everything about you. You talk to each other constantly. This is the person you know will always be there for you no matter what. They're already planning on being your maid of honor/best man and you aren't even dating anyone. This is the one you never, ever let go.
