So if you've lived in Texas your whole life, spent a week here on vacation, or are suffering through summer school -- then you know that Texas summers are no joke. They're hot, humid, and down-right miserable most of the time. I'm a native Texan and have experienced summer after summer in this state, so I thought I'd outline my least favorite parts. I hope you can either relate to what I'm saying, or if you're not from Texas, take this as a warning.
1. Constant and Immediate Sweating
Gross, I know -- but so true. It's not uncommon for the temperature to reach the high '90s or even low 100s during summer around here. And what does that mean? That means sweat. And let's be honest, sweat just makes everything seem worse. Your clothes get sticky and wet. Your makeup runs. Your hair gets nasty. It's no fun. It seems that as soon as you walk outside, you immediately start sweating. And even when you finally reach some shade or air conditioning, it continues. Good luck!
2. Your Car Burns You
Y'all know what I'm talking about. The seat, steering wheel, and seatbelt are all scorching hot. It's so hot it almost feels cold. It's impossible to not feel close to death after returning to your car after a shopping trip or lunch with a friend. Even after just 10 minutes, your car feels like a pot of boiling water. It's honestly the worst. And we've tried it all -- cracked windows, windshield covers -- you name it. Nothing seems to fix the burning car syndrome known as Texas Summers.
3. Unpredictable Weather
Now, I realize I've rambled on about how hot Texas summers are, but the truth of the matter is, you never really know what the weather will be like. Yes, it's mostly disgustingly hot around here, but sometimes you just never know. One day it's sunny with a slight breeze, and the next day we're under a tornado watch with rain and a temperature of 60 degrees. Be warned: Texas summers call for articles of clothing from swimsuits and flip flops to sweatshirts and rain jackets.
And contrary to popular belief (and my article) -- Texas summers are actually the best.
