Tarleton State University has quickly become one of my favorite places on the entire earth. When I leave I'm ready to come back and when I'm here I feel at home. I'm not the only one who feels this way. We Texans love our school! Here are 10 Reasons Why!
1. The People.
The people here are awesome. I have been going here for about four months; I don't think I've ever held a door open for myself. Both guys and girls see you coming and hold it for you. People here say thank you, please, yes ma'am and no ma'am. They're respectful and kind. If you're ever lost or not sure where you're supposed to go just turn to the person closest to you and ask. They will either know or find someone for you that does. It's refreshing being around so many kind people. It's like a break from the real world.
2. The Sports.
There is nothing like a Tarleton sports event. We love our Texans. Plowboys are loud, PANKUS chants, the Poo Oscar Ps and somehow the crowd always gets a little crazy. We live for that next great play. We love cheering on our Texans and Texanns until the very end - win or lose. It brings us together as the Tarleton family and we look forward to it. We schedule things around games and when we miss one our hearts break just a little.
3.The Traditions.
We love our traditions. From homecoming bonfire, plowboys and the poo to the smokestack, J-TAC Hearts and the grassburr we live for what comes next. We don't put up with rival schools making fun of our traditions and we all have probably explained the Poo to someone who just doesn't get it and probably never will. Tarleton has a lot of strange traditions but to us they're just life. We forget how weird they are and when people react weird to them we're always just slightly offended. We'll probably try to help it make sense anyway even though it probably won't because the love for our school is what makes it make sense to us.
4. The Campus.
Our campus is really beautiful. There is a tree between the fine arts building and the library that I have taken so many pictures of because it is perfect. Seriously perfect. Nothing is really that far of a walk because we do have a small campus, but the walk is a great one. Our student center is beautiful and once you pass that you're looking at awesome buildings. If you don't believe me come see it for yourself!
5. The Dorms.
OK, so not everybody is going to agree with me on this but I love it. There is something about living close to people and getting close to people that you live around. I have met some of my favorite people in my dorm hall. Just another great part of the being in the Tarleton family.
6. Homecoming Week.
You haven't experienced fun until you've experienced homecoming week at Tarleton. We watch the Plowboys light the bonfire. On your way to class you hear the beating of the drum. You team up with friends and search for the silver bugle. You watch the smoke stack turn purple and you two step the night away. Then to end it all we watch our Texans play football and cheer for a win. It is just another thing we all look forward to that brings us together.
7. Dr. D.
Our president is AWESOME. It is guaranteed that you will see Dr. D walking around campus talking to students, you might even see him learning to ride a hover board. He loves our school just as much as we do and it is easy to see. Dr. D is a great man who loves his students, and we love him!
8. The Poo.
They are crazy and hilarious and we love them. The lead us in the Oscar P chant at all the games, and you're guaranteed to have at least one awesome conversation with them. I love when the Poo come in at basketball games and find places in the student section to stand. You can see the student's faces light up and you know everyone is wondering who is going to get the poo signs. And just in case you aren't a Texan and you're wondering what in the world the Poo is:
9. The Plowboys.
Without the plowboys craziness at games I think we Texans would be a little lost. Also, what would we do about our homecoming bonfire? That thing is crazy awesome. The plowboys are pretty cool guys, and most of them are really polite until you start talking trash. We love our plowboys and the spirit they bring to our school!
10. All of it.
We love all of it. Every second, every minute and every day of it. Tarleton brings traditions, organizations and school and throws it all together into this magical thing that Tarleton Texans crave. When we leave, we look forward to coming back and when we're here we feel at home with this family we were so easily welcomed into. I am so thankful to a part of such an amazing school. I cannot wait to see what else it brings!
