The 10 Stages Of Second Semester

All college students can relate to the "second-semester slump."

In your first semester, you're ready to take on the world and have all the motivation to do anything. The second semester seems to be a lot harder and you basically want nothing to do with the college life. My friends and I are going through this second-semester slump, so here are the 10 phases of second semester explained by the cast of "Parks and Rec:"

1. “OK, I’m going to try really hard this semester. This is my semester!”

This was the naive beginning stage of the semester. We all know that this motivation lasted all of two weeks...maybe. 110 percent quickly turned into like.......a solid 85 percent, on a good day.

2. “This semester is like, a lot harder than I thought it would be…”

First semester went really well, so I took a harder course load. Big mistake. What have I done?

3. “Oh look! I failed my first accounting quiz! Off to a great start!”

After taking college algebra first semester and killing it, I figured, "Why not take accounting? What's the worst that could happen?" Well, I could fail my first quiz. That could happen........

4. “I thought I wouldn’t miss my mom as much this semester. Wrong.”

OK, honestly, it was just silly to think I would miss my mom any less. Obviously that will never happen. I think I might even text and call her more often this semester.

5. “I also miss my friends still. Why didn’t we just go to college together like we wanted to?”

I cannot even tell you how many times my friends and I were like, "Why don't we just all go to community college together and live home?" I wonder every day why we didn't do this, because I miss them so much.

6. “I feel like I have a lot more work this semester, but I watch a lot more Netflix this semester too… does that make me a bad student? Oh well.”

My work load is 10 times more this semester, but does that stop me from watching every season of "Gossip Girl," "Parks and Rec" and let us not forget "fUlLeR hOuSe"? No, no it does not. It just makes it a little bit more of a risk, and I like to consider myself a risk-taker, so there!

7. “Can I just skip this class? Nope. Nope. Tuition. Nope.”

The constant battle between "I want to skip this class" and tuition costing more than most modest cars. You always choose the class because you know if your parents found out you skipped a class, your life would be more than over. Always choose the class.

8. “Is it spring break yet? I just wanna sleep.”

I think I've been waiting for spring break since the last day of winter break. It's been a long road. Waiting for spring break is like waiting for rain in this drought: useless and disappointing.

9. “What do you mean I have finals in every class? Do you really think my anxiety can handle that?”

I feel as though professors talk to each other to make sure their students are never happy or well rested. They do everything in their power to make us anxious and scared. Kids, stay in high school as long as you can.

10. “I need summer break. Now.”

I haven't even had spring break yet and I'm ready for summer already. But, when days get hard and summer feels way too far off, vodka is always there to comfort you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
