So close to summer, its unbearable

Yet again we find ourselves starting a new semester; staring our newest classes in the face with promise and hope that our GPA's will magically rise above last semester's. Whether or not we were ready for winter break to end seems irrelevant as we are dropped right back in the middle of our hectic and stressful lives. Spring semester is the halfway mark of the year. The fall semester is behind you and only 15 more weeks stand between you and summer. Here are the 8 reasons why spring semester is the worst semester.

1. Starting all over again

Just when you were getting used to staying at home and enjoying your break, you are thrust back into the rough life of second semester. All new teachers, all new classes and entirely new textbooks. Going to class the first day back is like signing away your freedom for the next 4 months. It's hard to get back into the swing of things and even harder to keep the momentum going.

2. Beautiful Weather (but you can't go outside)

Spring is a beautiful season! Snow is melting, the ground is thawing and flowers are blooming. Unfortunately for us however, we do not get to take advantage of mother nature's yearly rebirth. Students will be stuck inside completing projects and writing dissertations instead of experiencing the freedom of the season.

3. Valentine's Day

I know that this holiday has an extraordinary mix of both beautiful and resentful feelings. Personally, I think it is a bit obnoxious. A day dedicated completely to love can be great but people on this day are a bit crazy! In my opinion, we should show this level of affection every day, not just once a year. Also, if you're single it has a tendency to suck.

4. No Homecoming

Homecoming! Such a weekend of drunken debauchery! Seeing all of the alumnae return to the homestead for one last hoorah is an incredible thing. Not having homecoming during spring semester is the equivalent to not having Christmas in December.

5. No Football Games

Football is the lifeblood of college campuses. Having an entire semester devoid of football is a tragedy. Whether or not your team wins or loses, the atmosphere of football games cannot be explained. There is excitement in the crowd and cheering in the air. Yet, when football takes a break, there is basketball to fill the semester gap.

6. Goes by Too Fast

Even though the average spring semester is 15 weeks, it goes by crazy fast. Maybe it's the weather or maybe it's anticipation for summer to come, but those 15 weeks are gone in the blink of an eye. Unfortunately, this means that midterms are right around the corner and finals will be here sooner than you think. The semester may have just started, but don't let it get away from you before it really begins.

7. Stress of Spring Break

SPRING BREAK!!! What everyone looks forward to during spring semester. Yes, this is the best part, but it can also be the worst. Planning a spring break trip can be stressful and expensive. We work all fall and winter break to be able to afford that much coveted week trip to Puerto Vallarta. Trying to get all of your friends on the same page with locations and money can be one of the biggest nightmares you will encounter.

8. Saying Goodbyes

If you are anything like me, saying goodbye is hard. Especially to those seniors you have gotten especially close to. Knowing that this is the end of their college journey with you can be a hard pill to swallow. Even though you know they are continuing on to greater things and many successes it is hard to see them go. They have been a part of your life for years and knowing they will not be there to confide in, go out with or ask advice from will take some getting used to. This is undeniably the worst part of spring semester, saying goodbye to some of your closest friends.

Spring semester is a time to re-evaluate where you are at. What worked last semester and what did not. It can be hard to stay focused with the beautiful weather outside as well a trying to fit in as many memories as possible before your senior friends leave. No matter what this spring brings your way, embrace it and remember to work hard and have a little fun.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
