Avocados not only taste great, they are also great for you! Avocados are incredibly nutrient-dense, including significant amounts of folate, potassium, and vitamins K, C, B5, B6 & E. They contain dietary fiber and are one of the only fatty fruits(most fruits are considered carbohydrates). Don't let the fats scare you away! The monounsaturated fat in avocados has been linked to many health benefits, including lowered cholesterol levels and even having anti-carcinogenic effects. Try out these 10 delicious ways to incorporate avocado into your diet.
1. The traditional way: Guacamole! Mash up the avocado, add ingredients to taste, enjoy with corn chips or veggies(l love to use carrots as dippers)
2. On toast. This is my favorite breakfast hands down. Either thinly slice or mash the avocado, add extra toppings(try egg, flax or chia, pomegranate seeds or nuts), and wah-lah! You have the Best. Breakfast. Ever.
3. Fried. Because who doesn't like fried food? Crispy on the outside, melt-in your-mouth good on the inside. Try dipping avocado fries in chipotle mayo for added spice!
4. In a smoothie or milkshake. Avocados have a rich, creamy texture due to being a healthy fat. This is a perfect texture to add to vanilla ice cream or a green smoothie!
5. Brownies? Yes, and they are really, really good! (click the pic for the recipe from The Healthy Maven)
6. On a burger. Literally has the superpower to make everything better. Even a juicy burger.
7. Tacos! Really, everyone knows that every Mexican dish can be improved with some guac. Tacos really allow for some creativity, so don't be flavor-shy!
8. Pesto. Avocado pesto is truly beautiful. You can add it to regular pasta or zoodles(vegetable noodles) for a delicious dinner.
9. Mug Cake. Want something different than boring chocolate or vanilla? Try making avocado mug cake with this great recipe. Bonus: it only takes 5 minutes!
10. I saved the best for last... avocado margarita! As if margaritas aren't perfect just the way they are. This drink could make any happy hour even happier!
