One of the most imperative times to have a strong support system in your life is when you’re transitioning from high school to college. You’re diving head first out of your comfort zone just waiting to make a splash into a pool of reality. The transition can be a little more reassuring for those who attend school in state where they already know a few familiar faces. But for those of you who are like me and decided to venture out of state into unfamiliar territory, this experience can be the epitome of anxiety. With all of this being said, I felt it was necessary to thank the fresh, new faces that have recently strolled into my life within my first year of college and have been glued to my side ever since...
1. Thank you for always being a text away.
Whether I have to gossip about an awkward encounter with a recent hookup, or when I can’t face eating in the cafeteria alone, or when I just need someone to vent to, you guys are always my go-to girls.
2. Thank you for always having random dance parties with me.
What better way to relieve stress than to throw a dance party? The only thing better than being able to go crazy and bust a move by myself is busting a move with my best friends.
3. Thank you for adding to my wardrobe.
Whether I'm scavenging for a top to match the rest of my party outfit or an oversized T-shirt to hit the gym in, I can always count on you guys for clothes when I'm too lazy to do my own laundry.
4. Thank you for always having my back.
Even college can be full with crazy girls that are out to get you for whatever reason. Nothing is more reassuring than having your girls ready to back you up on the spot at all times.
5. Thank you for always being down to take a cute Insta.
Whether we actually decide to go out on the weekend (or just pretend to all of our followers that we did), you're always there when I'm in need to snap a cute picture for the gram!
6. Thank you for always missing me when we're apart.
Whenever we're pulled apart from club meetings, sports practices, or even just class, we hate being apart. We develop a stronger separation anxiety by the day and we aren't afraid to take down anyone who tries to keep us apart.
7. Thank you for always keeping my attitude in check.
We all have those days where our attitudes are just completely out of line, but there's no one better to let you know you're in need of an attitude check than all of your girlfriends who will tell you how it is.
8. Thank you for always reminding me of my self-worth.
With all of the craziness life throws at you, it can be difficult to remember your self worth. Thank you to my best friends who have helped me through so many difficult times already when I truly doubted myself.
9. Thank you for always being my family away from home.
Adjusting to this whole college thing was an extremely difficult time for me, especially not having my family by my side like I’ve always been used to. You’ve always been there when I’ve needed advice, a shoulder to cry on, or someone to always back me up. You guys have stepped in and provided me with the strength and security that my biological family always has, and for that, I could not be more thankful.
10. Thank you for always giving me a reason to come back to school.
Sometimes, we just want to call it quits. College can be extremely overwhelming trying to balance academics, a social life, and extracurricular activities all while trying to be a healthy individual. But no matter what life wants to throw at me, you guys will always be the reason I come back day after day.
Here's to many more years of love and laughter with my dance partners, go-to girls, future bridesmaids, but most importantly, my lifelong best friends. Thank you.
