Anyone with “fun” parents like mine knows what it’s like to have your dad be cooler, funnier, and more popular than you are… but that’s not always a bad thing. My dad always has been, and probably always will be, the biggest role model in my life, and for that I could never thank him enough.
As cliched as it, there is no way for me to put into words all that you do for me, Dad. As I’m getting closer and closer to the real world, I’m realizing how hard life is about to get for me, but it’s comforting to know that I’ll always have you. I want to stay sheltered under my small campus bubble forever, but unfortunately, my bubble is about to pop. The first thing I’d like to thank you for is keeping me in check with reality. You’ve always taught me to keep an end in sight… no matter what, you’ve taught me to work towards a goal. I also know that I can count on you for anything, at any time. Whether I need to call you to ask you a million questions about things I could probably figure out on my own, or just to check in during the day, I know you’ll always be there. I love our daily phone calls because they make me feel not so far from home. They’re special to me, and I want you to know that I don’t take them for granted.
Thank you for teaching me about life. I know I still have a lot to learn about being an adult, but without you to guide me, I would have a lot more. You lead by example, and I will always be grateful to have you in my life. You’ve taught me the importance and the value of hard work, how to make the best of unfortunate situations, and most importantly how rely on myself more than anyone else (except for you, of course). You always have the best advice, and while you might not always tell me exactly what I want to hear, you tell me what I need to hear. You keep me in check with reality, and I’m sure you know how much I need that sometimes.
I admire you in more ways than you know. You always put my needs above your own. I can’t count the times that you changed your plans to give me a ride somewhere, to come to a horse show or a game, or to visit me at school. Your unconditional and endless encouragement, support, and love are a constant reminder to keep working hard, because at the end of every day, I just want to make you proud.
You’re also one of the funniest and most popular humans I’ve ever met. You constantly make me laugh, and I’m glad that we have the same sense of humor because it brings us closer on a daily basis. Your dad jokes are as corny as they come, but your enthusiasm for making my sisters and me laugh make my heart happy. It also never fails that no matter where I go, at least one person will recognize me as your daughter because we look so much alike. So, thank you for unknowingly introducing me to so many people with such a positive attitude.
Not many people would be able to overcome all of the obstacles that you have. From what you have taught me about life through your restaurant, your relationship with Mom, and your dedication to my sisters and me, I couldn’t ask for a better role model. You are the most driven, loving, and inspiring person in my life. When I grow up, I hope to be as accomplished and well-rounded as you are. Thank you for being a constant in my life. I love you!
