Thankful And Grateful

Thanksgiving: my favorite day of the entire year. And while I'm a firm believer that we should be thankful 365 days a year, it's nice to have a holiday solely dedicated to showing gratitude (and eating copious amounts of turkey and stuffing, of course).

A few things that I am thankful for today and every day:

1. For a home that makes "coming home" all the more sweet.

2. For a family that makes me feel loved even on my worst days.

3. For friends that never fail to make me smile; friends that just get me.

4. For a boyfriend that makes me immeasurably happy (and lucky).

5. For my health and my family's.

6. For North Jersey bagels (because no where else's even begins to compare).

7. For the 10 days I spent in Israel this past summer that forever changed my life.

8. For my education, believe it or not. Because not everyone in this world is this fortunate.

9. For travel. For the places I've been and the places I've yet to see.

10. For being young and capable and truly having the world at my fingertips.

11. For having no classes before 11 a.m.

12. For Delta Zeta and the steadfast love that my sorority sisters have given me.

13. For my Big and Little because we are without a doubt the best (and maybe the scariest) trio this world has ever seen.

14. For sleep-away camp and the 10 plus summers I spent sneaking out past curfew and illegally ordering Chinese food onto campus.

15. For carbs, in general, because I eat like a child and could literally live off of pasta with butter.

16. For the mistakes I've made. Because I've learned a whole lot from them.

17. For my dogs. Because there is no warmer welcome home than being greeted by slobbery kisses and terribly stinky dog breath.

18. For being -- and loving -- who I am.

19. For my cell phone that keeps me connected with my best friend who is studying abroad in Israel.

20. For my hometown and my "Bergen County bubble" because there is no where else in this world that I could imagine growing up.

21. For my morale. Because not everything in this world is going to go my way and I fully accept this.

22. For my body that is healthy and kickin'. For my metabolism that allows me to go to Sonic with my boyfriend for a midnight snack and allows me to order pizza at 2 a.m on a Monday with my housemates. For my forgiving liver because I know that college has not been very kind to it.

23. For my housemates and the seemingly-perfect "doll house" that supports the nine of us. (Oh, and for my landlord who has yet to evict us even though we find something new to complain about every single day).

24. For the five-course meal that I'm going to eat for Thanksgiving dinner tonight and for my tiny body that will support my food coma as a result of this.

25. For having so much to be grateful for, and for having a day to remind me how lucky I truly am.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
