13 Thank Yous To My College Lifelines

College can be a tough time without some help.

College can be rough if you’re going through it alone. Fortunately, there are things that help make it easier every day. These things normally go un-thanked, which is an injustice to their service. It’s time to appreciate the little things that make college more bearable.

1. My Bed

The first thank you goes out to my bed for being so comfy. I’m sorry you’re never made, and I’m sorry you’re full of crumbs half the time. Technically, it’s your fault for making me not want to get up to eat something.

2. Google

The real MVP. Google, I love you. Thank you for helping me with every subject since the beginning of time. Whenever I need to know anything, you are always there for me with an answer in seconds. I swear I learn more from you than from my professors sometimes.

3. Amazon

Thank you, Amazon- Amazon Prime, to be exact. Just want to say thank you for delivering anything I forgot at home or anything I need in two days with free shipping. Gloves? Face wash? A pound of yellow Starbursts? All necessities I have ordered using Amazon that I just couldn’t get through college without.

4. The Library

Just want to say thanks for making me feel like I’m being productive. Sometimes you motivate me to get some work done, but honestly, I could be watching videos of small animals the whole time and still feel accomplished. You know, because I’m doing it in the library. Anything you do at the library can be considered studying, in my opinion.

5. Netflix

Thank you, Netflix! So many laughs, so many tears, so many marathon sessions. Thanks for keeping me sane and helping me relax. I probably use you too often, but I won't apologize for that.

6. Sweatshirts

Shout out to sweatshirts for being my go-to outfit. You’re comfy, you’re warm, and you take very little effort. Perfect for when I have to wake up early and don’t feel like thinking about what to wear. Sweatshirts always have my back.

7. Advil

Thank you, Advil, you miracle worker. Whether hearing loud music in the dorms gives me a headache, or the morning after a night out doesn’t go so well, you always seem to keep my head on straight. Thanks for making me feel better even if it’s just for just a few hours.

8. FaceTime

How did people ever live without you? Thanks, FaceTime, for letting me keep in touch with my friends and family at home because sometimes a phone call just isn’t enough.

9. Pizza

Thank you, pizza. You are, by far, the most versatile food out there. Whether it be a plain slice during the day for lunch or a mac & cheese slice at night downtown, you’re always a go-to.

10. Stuffed Animal From Home

I am not ashamed of you! Thank you, stuffed animal, for being a piece of home with me here at school. Every time I see you it’s a reminder that home’s not so far away. You’re comforting and really, really soft. So thanks.

11. Late Night Deliveries

Whether it’s Insomnia Cookies, Dominos, or anything else, late night deliveries deserve a huge thank you. When I’m too tired to go get food myself or not in the mood for the same things in the dining hall is when it’s your time to shine. Thank you for not being too expensive and for validating my laziness.

12. Friends

Hey, guys. Thanks for reminding me that I'm never alone and for being awesome. Also for never judging me because admit it, you're just as weird as I am.

13. Mom

Thanks, Mom. Without you, none of this would be possible. Also, I wouldn’t be alive. So, there’s that too.

What would I do at school without these things? I never want to find out the answer to that question.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
