In life, I feel as though people often go unappreciated, and so I am here to give a shout-out to all the amazing friends I have made over my 19 years.
Thank you to the friends who have stuck with me since elementary school. Now that we have all moved away from where we grew up, we only get to see each other once every couple of years. It's hard not being able to visit as much, but I know that I always have you ladies. I consider you part of my family. Thank you for spending every day with me growing up and giving me the best memories. I know you all will be in my life forever.
Thank you to my wonderful group of high school friends for keeping in touch during our first year away from home. When I was leaving for college last fall, I had a preconceived notion in my head that the friendships I had formed in high school weren't going to be as strong after we all went to college. I was overly anxious that I would lose my friends that I had been so close to for the past four years. However, now I am home for the summer and I am so grateful for the group of friends that welcomed me back with open arms. Whether we sent texts regularly or only caught up every once in awhile, once we were back together it was like nothing had changed. I am happy to say that we overcame the dreaded, “you won’t keep your same friends from high school” stereotype.
Also, thank you to the people I met in college at the very beginning, and have stuck with me throughout the whole year. Without you all I would never have pushed myself out of my comfort zone or tried all the new things college has to offer. I needed people like you in my life and I hope that the memories that we have made over the span of this year are just the beginning of the life-long stories to be made.
In particular, I want to thank my super awesome, amazingly goofy, supportive best friend. My greatest fear when starting my freshman year of college (six hours away from each other) was that our relationship would be strained, or that I would lose her altogether. But, in a funny way, I think college has made us grow even closer than we were before. Granted, we only saw each other on breaks from school, but thank you keeping me updated about your life and including me in all the highs and lows for the past few months. If I could thank you a million times for everything you’ve done for me, I would.
Despite all the friends who have stayed by my side, there have been some people that I have simply grown apart from and I have come to terms with that. I do not put blame on anyone for the friendships that haven’t lasted the test of time because these things happen. I know that growing up means growing apart and I only wish the best for them. I want to thank you, even though you are no longer in my life, for all the times in the past that you have helped me become the person I am now.
I am only 19 but I know that I will acquire new friendships over the years, so I am thanking you (whoever you may be) in advance.
My friends mean the world to me and without them I don’t know where I would be. So, thank you to my friends, and thank you to anyone who has built me into the woman I am today.
