Thank You To My Suite

To the girls I share a bathroom and life with.

Thank You To My Suite
Cheyanne Broyles

Moving to college is hard. You have to leave the wonderful home-cooked meals, the comfort of your own bed, the amazing water pressure and, worst of all, you have to share a 10’ x 14’ room with someone you barely even know and a bathroom with three other girls. Having a suite can be a horror story at times, but also one of the best things of college.

To my super suite,

Thank you for always bandaging me up. Whether it be cutting myself in the shower or having a random nose bleed attack, I can always count on you guys to care for my wounds.

Thank you for tolerating my late night shenanigans. You guys are always up for a late night talk, a Sonic run, or willing to take a text from our RA to quiet down when I’m being to loud.

Thank you for leaving notes behind in the shower, even if they are making fun of how I snore.

Thank you for being responsible adults and bringing things such as plates, forks, knives and spoons to college. I wouldn’t have enjoyed eating rice off a paper towel quite like I did out of a bowl I stole from your room when you weren’t there.

Thank you for doing workout videos with me and running 5Ks with me, even though we almost died.

Thank you for tolerating my messy desk. No matter how many times I clear off that thing, clothes, food and books seem to somehow make their way back to it.

Thank you for my newfound appreciation of llamas. I would have never known the difference between a llama and an alpaca if it weren’t for you guys.

Special thanks for never locking me in the bathroom, because I probably would have had a panic attack. Thanks for leaving the comfort of your bed to let me in the dorm when I forgot my keys.

Thank you for watching sad movies with me when I feel like crying, and watching food videos with me for fun.

Thank you for never judging me after eating three no-bake cookies in a row or eating icing from the jar.

Thank you for braiding my hair every other morning, giving me fashion advice when I literally have nothing that’s working for me and helping me achieve my goal of looking like Kylie Jenner.

Thank you for editing all my papers, speeches and applications, and for quizzing me over macroeconomics when nothing was making any sense.

Thank you for being my support system 24/7. I can always count on you guys to tell me I look good (even when I’m looking ratchet), wipe away my tears and invest in my life like no one else on campus can.

Even though the year is coming to an end and the season of us all living together is close to over, I want you to know how much I appreciate you and all the joy you have brought to me this semester. No matter where we all end up in five years from now, I can confidently look back on my freshman year and say living in suite 224-226 was one of the best experiences from my freshman year of college.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
