A Thank You Note To My Sister

"You are sisters by blood, but best friends by choice."

A Thank You Note To My Sister
“Sister to sister
We will always be,
A couple of nuts
Off the family tree”
–Unknown

Sisters are very special people that have been placed into our lives. We did not have a choice in whether we received a sister or not. Some of us were given sisters at birth while others were given sisters through their best friends. Regardless, we all have some kind of sister in our life. And truth-be-told, the role of a sister is a pretty thankless job. So here is a thank you note to all of the sisters in your life. Let them know that you love them. Let them know that you appreciate them. Being a good sister is hard, but someone has to do it.

Thank you for always having my back.

There are times in your life when you feel like no one is really there for you. But you are wrong. Your sister will always have your back no matter what you do. They will always be there for you through thick and thin. That is her job, to support you when no one else will.

Thank you for always being a shoulder to cry on.

Sisters always know exactly when they need to be there for you. They are the perfect people to talk to when you are having a hard time with something. If you just went through a bad break up, they will be there with chocolate and a funny movie in hand. Sisters will always hold you when you need to cry. And, most importantly, sisters will be the ones to cry with you through the hard times. We learn to lean on each other for support and that is what being a sister is all about.

Thank you for doing wild and crazy things with me.

Sisters are the ones that you tell your biggest dream to. If you want to go skydiving, nine out of 10 times, your sister will be willing to go do it with you. They are the ones that will do the craziest of crazy things with you. They are the ones that will try the gross food with you. Sisters are there to help you test your limits and see just how far you will go.

Thank you for letting me learn from your mistakes.

Sisters help us learn from each other’s mistakes. When we mess up, we are able to see what our sister did wrong and not repeat that same mistake. They look out for you because, in the end, they only want the best for you. They don’t want you to regret something you did, which is why they want you to learn from the things they have done in the past.

Thank you for loving me no matter what.

Sisters are some of the only people who will love you no matter what you do. If you do something wrong, your sister will still love you. Her job, ultimately, is to love you regardless of what you do, whom you do it with, or why you did it. If you do not like something that you did, your sister probably won’t like it either. At times, your sister may not like you. But, in the end, she will always love you.

Thank you for being my best friend and better half.

There is a quote that says, “You are sisters by blood, but best friends by choice.” This quote is so true in every way. We choose to be best friends with our sisters and that is the best choice to make. Having a sister is really like having a built-in-best-friend. This person will be with you throughout your entire life.

They see your ups and your downs and they grow with you. Sisters finish each other’s sentences. They know what you are talking about even when you don’t know what you are talking about. Sisters seem to have another language that only they understand and it seems like they can read each other’s minds. We are lucky to be given sisters and they are lucky to have us.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
