Dear Stetson,

I have to say it is very a bittersweet time for me right now. In just a few short weeks I’ll take my last final and my chapter at this wonderful school will be closed. I’m so proud to finally get my degree, that piece of paper showing that all my hard work and sleepless nights were worth it, but I’m sad to say goodbye. Thank you Stetson for becoming my second home, even if it was for just the short time of two years.

I went to a few other schools before finally settling on Stetson, with my only regret that I didn’t discover it sooner. Looking back five semesters just wasn’t enough time to enjoy all Stetson has to offer. I’ll miss the walks through palm court and sitting on the green. I’ll miss the sprinklers going off at the most inconvenient times as I run to class to not be late. I’ll miss grabbing late night food and caffeine with friends at the coffee shop. I’ll even miss the mile walk I had to take to and from class everyday while living at Stetson Cove.

Thank you to the awesome friends I made. My time at Stetson has been so great because of all the amazing people I have had the opportunity to meet. I’ve made some life long friends at Stetson and I am so grateful for all the fun times and those drunken nights. Stetson made the last two years of my college experience be some of the best times in my life.

Thank you to the Lynn Business Center, my main hub and home at Stetson. I had some of my best laughs and most stressful breakdowns inside those walls. I learned more than I ever thought I was capable of in this building and discovered my true passion was indeed in business. It is because of the great professors I had and the opportunities presented to me at the LBC that I am graduating with the skills I need to succeed.

Thank you to the town of DeLand, you have truly shown me what southern hospitality really is all about. Thank you for the endless cups of sweet tea from all the local restaurants and the huge cups of coffee at Boston Coffeehouse. Thank you to Da Vinci’s, the Abbey and Brickhouse for being my Friday and Saturday night hang out spots. Thank you for showing a northern girl just how charming the south and Florida can be.

So thank you for everything Stetson. For the unforgettable memories, the laughs, the late night cries, the friendships and most importantly, the great education. I’m so glad I found a second home here in DeLand, and I’ll see you in May at graduation.

Sincerely,

A Soon To Be Graduate

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
