Dear Mom and Dad,
I don’t even know where to begin, you two have done so much for me over the years and I’m only now learning to appreciate it. You know I am not a sappy or emotional person, so of course there are a lot of things I’ve never thanked you for.
Mom, thank you for baking me cookies every year for finals. It is the only thing that keeps me sane. Thank you for scheduling and keeping track of all my appointments because I’m not ready to be that much of an adult yet. Thank you for always being up for retail therapy. Thank you for consistently being there for me and for giving me motherly advice, even when I didn’t listen to it.
Dad, thank you for always being there to nerd out with me about Marvel, SNL, Harry Potter, and countless other things I’m obsessed with. Thank you for giving me your sarcasm, it keeps things interesting. Thank you for always texting me after a big exam or event to ask how it went. Thank you for setting the standard for whatever future man comes into my life.
To the both of you, thank you for supporting me in everything that I do. From ballet, to gymnastics, to horseback riding, to basketball, to softball, to theatre, you were always my number one fans. No matter what my interests were, you both pushed me to do my best, and for that I am so grateful.
Thank you for teaching me to be kind. Yes, I’m sassy and sarcastic and was sorted into Slytherin on Pottermore, but deep down I always try to be kind and do what is right. I credit this to how you two raised me.
Thank you for allowing me to form my own opinions; especially during political season. Instead of forcing your opinions on me, you ask what I think about an issue and are always encouraging me to keep an open mind.
Thank you for allowing me to figure things out on my own. When I was applying to colleges, I remember both of you suggesting that maybe Communications would be a good major for me. I shrugged it off and insisted that I wanted to do something with animals. Now here we are a year later, and I’m changing my major. You were right, but you let me do it in my own way.
Thank you for working so hard to give me the best education possible. I promise, I don’t take it for granted.
Thank you for trusting me. I once remember you saying, “We know teenagers lie.” And yes, I did/do lie to you on occasion. But I also tell you the truth. Because I know you trust me, I choose to tell you what is going on in my life and it’s great to know that I can talk to you about most things.
Lastly, thank you for giving me everything. From financial to emotional support, you two have always been there for me. I can’t think of two better parents to be raised by, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
Love,
Your favorite daughter
