My brother, a 27-year-old retired veteran, has been diagnosed with cancer at a young age. He has had several surgeries including an amputation of his right arm. This is his second year participating in the Invictus Games, and it has a much deeper meaning than just playing a sport.
The Invictus Games inspire recovery and support rehabilitation to those who have been wounded, injured or sick serving for their country. Created by Prince Harry, wounded warriors and servicemen and women participate in sports like wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, and indoor rowing. Invictus, meaning "unconquered" or "undefeated" in Latin, was inspired by the Warrior Games which was an event held in the United States.
Thank you, Invictus games for giving my brother and hundreds of other servicemen and women the opportunity to feel a sense of worth and accomplishment. Thank you for giving our brave heroes something to look forward to and something to enjoy. After a lot of research, I concluded that those participating in the Invictus Games have made them realize how physically and mentally strong they are. The Games are a chance to distract the mind and forget... To focus on something positive and burn off some negative energy.
I love watching the men and women participate in these Invictus Games. It is refreshing to see them focused and happy. I know it brings so much happiness and worth to each of the players. So thank you, Invictus Games, for giving the world a little bit more happiness.
