Dear Daddy,
Happy Father’s Day. I know it may not seem like it but I still feel like your little girl. I still feel like the same baby you used to change diapers for and spend sleepless nights with. And I promise even though that ‘little girl’ doesn’t seem to be there anymore, a wise, mature girl has replaced her.
You are the reason that ‘little girl’ turned into a young woman. Without your consistent guidance and support I would not be who I am today, and I would not have accomplished half the things I have wanted to.
So thank you for teaching me how to be me.
Thank you for teaching me how to be a good person. Thank you for teaching me how to be appreciative. Thank you for teaching me how to be committed. Thank you for teaching me to never give up. Thank you for teaching me how to love unconditionally. Thank you for teaching me right vs. wrong. Thank you for teaching me how to believe in myself. Thank you for teaching me how to own up to my mistakes. Thank you for teaching me how to love myself.
And of course, thank you for always providing for me. Not only have you and mom provided me with a beautiful life but also a beautiful university filled with opportunity. Being away at college was a lot harder than I expected. I didn’t think I would miss you as much as I actually do. I didn’t think I would miss being asked 20 questions before going out. I didn’t think I would miss being nagged about finishing my work ahead of time. I didn’t think I would have the freedom to make every single choice on my own.
But until that time came, I never realized how much I appreciated those constant, annoying, caring reminders you had given me for the past 18 years of my life. I never realized that every little reminder would soon adopt into a habit. So finally, thank you for teaching me how to be independent.
And of course, thank you for being you. I am so blessed to have a role model like you in my life. I am so blessed to have such a supportive, hard working father that consistently provides for his family. Finally, I feel even more blessed to say that I know I’m your favorite (sorry Lex).
I love you Dad. Thank you for giving me the world.
Love Always,
Karina Nicole Valentin
