I don't remember the exact time that we met, but I remember when our parents did: February 14, 1996.
I was three months old and crying in a restaurant and your parents happened to turn around, and my parents immediately apologized and said it was their first time out to eat with me, and your parents just smiled and said I reminded them of you, and that they missed you because you were home with a babysitter.
Our parents exchanged phone numbers and ever since then, we've been best friends. We spent a lot of time together when you were in Massachusetts. We would eat dinner at each other's houses, we would celebrate our birthdays, we would go hiking and go out for ice cream...we did everything together.
I am so grateful for our friendship. You're my first best friend, and my oldest best friend. We went through everything together whether it was our first fight, you always wanting to be player one whenever we played Mario Kart Double Dash, and the hardest thing that we have ever gone through: you moving to Ohio. I was crushed when I found out that my best friend was moving because I didn't want to lose you as a friend.
I was so scared that our friendship might be ending, and that you would find a new best friend. I was a scared little nine-year-old, who was worrying about silly things. I am so, so grateful that our friendship hasn't ended, and I believe it's only gotten stronger with distance. We may not talk or text each other every day, but we know that we are always there for each other and we will always have each other's backs.
You have no idea how proud I am of you. You've grown up to be such a wonderful, sweet, kind, and mature young man and I am so blessed I know you. You have defied the odds and you are so, so strong and determined in everything you do whether it is swimming, schoolwork and even driving. You're such an inspiring person and I hope you know that you've inspired countless people to be the best that they can be...including me. The smiles, laughs and jokes that we've made never fail to make me smile even on my darkest day.
I am so, so happy that we've become friends and I am even happier we are still friends.
Would you do me the honor of being my best man at my future wedding? We have known each other for 21 years and I wouldn't want anyone else.
With Lots of Love,
Your Best Friend,
Jenn
