Sissy,

I don’t get the chance to tell you enough times how much you mean to me. I know that being a big sister is not always easy, but let me assure you that you are doing a flawless job. You have taught me patience, kindness, and how to be a better sister, daughter, and friend. I truly want to thank you for that. The crazy thing about us is that we are complete opposites. While some people may view this as being a negative thing, I believe that it is one of our best qualities as sisters. You are a worry-wart, a little shy, uptight, absolutely hilarious, you don’t like hugs or affection, and your advice is usually just to “suck it up.” I was more of the laid back, affectionate, outgoing, sensitive, and lazy sister. You were tough on me because you always wanted to see me to succeed and I am forever grateful for that. You were the one to push me out of my comfort zone and make me try things that I would have never even thought of because you had that much faith in me. Thank you for teaching me to be the best version of myself and to never let me give up on my dreams. You accept me for all of my flaws, quirks, mistakes, and mood-swings. You never think to judge me and you continue to love me at my best and my worst.

The summers we spent together home alone every single day were definitely a bonding experience to say the least. Thank you for always being the responsible one and putting the dishes away, folding the clothes, taking the dogs out, and making sure that there was nothing for mom and dad to complain about when they got home from work. Even though I would have helped you, you always took initiative to get things done. Your work ethic inspires me to be a better student and a harder worker. You never give up on anything you set your mind to, and although you have faced struggles, you have never stopped trying.

Thanks for all of the years where you looked out for me and had my back. Even though you weren’t always the best at giving advice because showing your feelings isn’t one of your specialities, I always valued your opinion. I felt like I needed your approval with everything. One thing I know is that you were always honest with me. Thank you for telling me that the outfit I was wearing was hideous, that big hoop earrings are out of style, or telling me that the boy I was dating was treating me badly. Thank you for telling me that everything was going to be okay and for giving me a shoulder to cry on.

Thank you for being my hair and makeup team for those middle school dances and high school proms. Thank you for telling me the teachers that I should and shouldn’t take for difficult classes. Thank you for hanging out with me even though you hated every second of it and would have rather been with your friends. Thank you for sharing your closet with me, even though I’m disappointed that we aren’t the same shoe size. Thank you for never taking me seriously when I would say that I hated you and never wanted to talk to you again, because if I could, I would take those words back in a heartbeat. I honestly have no idea where I would be without you and I could never ask for a better big sister than you. Through our ups and downs you are still my other half and my forever best friend. I will be there for you, just like you have been there for me. I know that we will still have our fights, but you will never hold a grudge. We will have our differences but our bond can only get stronger. You are the most amazing woman and I wish that you could see the strength and beauty that I see in you. I love you always.

- Your baby sister

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
