Texas A&M Is Ugly

What is it about this school?

Have you ever heard of that massive college in College Station, Texas? You know, the one with the really loud, proud students who seem like a cult or something?

That’s right ladies and gents — the talk of the hour is Texas A&M University. Thousands of students walk across this campus daily, and they love it.

However, people that do not attend this university tend to question as to why one would choose to attend such an “ugly” school. I’ve heard “A&M is so ugly,” “The campus is dull” and “Why would you ever want to go there?” all too many times.

But, what people do not know is that A&M is the most beautiful school you could ever attend, graduate from or just visit.

And here is why:

1. It is crazy friendly

When I say crazy, I mean crazy. If you're not accustomed to strangers shouting, "Howdy" as you walk by, it seems crazy at first. But you soon learn it's crazy-good and crazy-awesome. People here in College Station are genuinely kind, respectful and welcoming. If you're new, you won't be for long.

2. It is rich in traditions

Going to college can be a scary transition. Entering into a university with such rich traditions often brings back a sort of nostalgic, homey feeling that causes this change to come more naturally. Not only do the traditions make all students feel at home, they also incorporate a sense of reverence and pride into the school as well. Of course I cannot list all of the traditions Texas A&M has accumulated over time because that would be another article in itself. But a few of the widely known traditions are the Century Tree, Silver Taps, Muster and Midnight Yell. Aggies are proud of who they are and the traditions they practice.

3. Fightin' Texas Aggie Football

If you've never been to a Texas A&M football game, you're missing out. It's one of the most fun experiences you could have. The roar of the crowd travels across town, and the entire student body stands the whole game to represent the 12th man. These Aggies cheer so loudly and proudly, it's almost impossible to join in. From chants initiated by the yell leaders, to the consistant wave of the 12th Man Towels, the student body, along with the remaining crowd of course, is passionate about their school.

4. The "Aggie Network"

Since Texas A&M is such a tightly bound group of compassionate individuals, this transfers over into its graduates. There is an entire association for these A&M graduates, and they are more than willing to help current, potential and previous students. Whether it be questioning them about their career post-A&M, asking them how they got to the job title they currently obtain or even asking for a potential favor, this giant network of Aggies is not only helpful but generous. If anyone ever raves about Texas A&M's networking, they are not at all off-base.

5. This school has every type of person

When hearing about other universities, most usually have formed a general stereotype overtime. Other than being "southern," A&M is exceptionally diverse. Seeing such unique personalities, races, and backgrounds all come together under the giant roof of Texas A&M is beauty in itself. It's rare that a single university can house so many unique people achieving their own individualized goals.

Despite what people may say about Texas A&M University, this college has beauty in many aspects. We take pride in our people, traditions and school as a whole. Greatness is crammed into this small town of College Station, and there's something beautiful about that unity in itself.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
