I'm a lover of all types of music, truly. There is no getting a car with me and being worried about what kind of music I want to jam to, my Uber driver's love me for it. So I've compiled some new and some old artists you need to check out and add to your music bank to get you in the right mind for this beautiful warm weather we are having in 2016.
In no particular order:
Tyler Childers - is the finest songwriter to emerge from the Bluegrass State since Chris Knight. Childers' has a raspy soulful voice that will put any one at ease which makes for a killer tune paired with a banjo, so give Charleston Girl a listen when the sun is kissing your skin on the lake.
Turnpike Troubadours - Good Lord Lorrie, is a long hot summer day jam.Ryan Beaver - Streets of Austin, when you're playing washers in the back yard.
William Clark Green - I may be biased but one of my favorite musicians on the scene, you're not going to find lyrics quite like these guys produce, their newest album Ringling Road has an assortment of songs to nod your head to with the windows down, a personal favorite is Misunderstood from WCG 2010 album.
Josh Abbott - a pretty popular West Texas staple, especially if you attend Texas Tech (wreck em') I've always resorted to Electric Skies when I sit on the back porch and watch spring showers come rolling in.
Aaron Watson - 3rd Gear & 17
Pat Green - Wave on Wave, Carry On makes you want to take your car and drive with the windows down along the coast and scream the lyrics at the top of your lungs with the sun beaming on your face.
Kaitlin Butts - finally a new girl on the radio to idolize, talented is an understatement for this young lady, Wild Rose will for sure be your girls weekend anthem.
Uncle Lucius - Ain't it The Same, waiting outside the liquor store while your friend grabs a 30.Shane Smith & the Saints - Dance the Night Away, Coast
Cross Canadian Ragweed - no explanation needed.
Stoney LaRue - is the epitome of being at Hell's Gate on Possum Kingdom lake, so enough said.
Flatland Cavalry - boy oh boy, do I love this group, their album Come May was the soundtrack for my summer 2015. So the next time you're lounging poolside give No Shade of Green a listen, and keep your ears pricked for their new album "Humble Folks" out April 1st, 2016!
Ryan Bingham - absolutely anything off his 2007 Mescalito album.. anything.
JB and The Moonshine Band - No Better Than This
John Baumann, also known as John Edward Baumann - another musician who frequents West Texas hasn't written a tune I don't like. Make sure High Plains Alchemy is a tune sung under a Texas cotton candy sunset.
Paul Eason - Live it Up
Adam Hood - Way to Long, for the days you don't go outside and just lay in bed.
Johnny Cooper - is someone who always puts me in a good mood, whether its Texas to You or Hot Mess, I love this guy.
Cory Morrow - reminds me of Pat Green especially his ballad, Beat of Your Heart. So it obviously has to make the list.
Jason Isbell - Stockholm, is a must for a trip down to the hill country. But I must encourage you to give any song of his a listen, Isbell was once a part of The Drive By truckers but ventured out on his own, and later wrote Southeastern one of my all time favorite albums.
Dixie Chicks - need I say more...?
Sam Riggs - another very talented artist, Your Troubadour is for your summer romance.
Dalton Domino - Jesus and Handbags, I cannot turn on the radio without hearing this song and I do not mind one bit. All too often I find myself dancing around the kitchen whilst doing the dishes to this melody. Nail on the head, Mr. Domino.
Grady Spencer - Baby, Treat Her Good for a good day spent over a barbecue pit with a cold beer in hand.
The Statesboro Revue - Live a Little
These are only a few running through my head I know there's more than a few I've left off, but great material nonetheless; definitely nothing the neighbors won't complain about being too loud. So make sure the mountains are blue, and enjoy your booze cruise.
