10 Things We Take For Granted Everyday

Most days we wake up and can't help, but think of all the tasks we have to complete that day. Somedays when we wake up we can't help, but think about all the tasks that have to be done the whole week. Often we complain about going to work, or school, but we often get so caught up in what we have to do, that we forget to enjoy the little things in life. Its these small things in life that makes our lives great.

1. You woke up breathing.

When our alarm goes off in the morning we cant help, but think of all the tasks that have to be completed. Wishing we could sleep in, and hoping the day will go by fast. Often if it isn't Friday we count down the days to the weekend or our next day off. There is only seven days a week and we try to rush through five of those days. We woke up breathing. We take for granted that we have another day on earth.

2. You have a roof over your head.

We wake up in the morning and complain about not having enough sleep, but we don't wake up thanking God that we have a roof over our head. Its raining outside, and we cant help, but complain about having to walk to our car or the bus stop. We woke up with a roof over our heads. We take for granted that we are comfortable and some people don't have homes.

3. You have a stove to cook on.

We wake up wondering what we are going to eat that morning and for dinner. We pull out chicken and leave it on the counter to defrost, but often complain about having to cook it. We have a stove to cook on. We take for granted that some people don't have houses, or money for food.

4. You have family and friends.

We all have that friend or family member that calls over every little detail in their life. Sometimes we wake up not wanting to have to deal with others. There are times when we just want to be left alone and not social. Many times we don't realize how lucky we are to have family and friends. They are the ones who help us through when life gets hard. We have family and friends. We take for granted that our friends and family won't always be around forever.

5. There isn't war outside your door.

The world isn't a safe place and anything can happen at anytime, but for the most part you can walk outside your door without fear. Someone out there is fighting in a war, or preparing to fight. Sometimes peoples communities turn into war zones. There isn't war outside our door steps. We take for granted that we are safe inside our homes and can walk outside every morning.

6. You have a job to go to.

There is so much you can do during your day. We rather be having fun, then going to work, but we forget some people don't have jobs. Some are laid off, or are too sick to work. We are blessed and healthy enough to work and support ourselves and our families. We have jobs. We take for granted that we are able to make money.

7. You can receive an education.

School is difficulty and it takes a lot of work. Often we complain that it takes too long, and that we would rather be doing something different. What we often don't think about is how no one can take our minds. We are able to learn and become smart. People can take items away from you, but not your education. Most of our friends were made during school. We are able to get an education. We take for granted that in some countries not all students are allowed to go to school, or can afford schooling. Some schools aren't safe for students.

8. Your senses.

We wake up and hear birds singing, but often we wish they would shut up. We can smell the flowers, but often get mad because our allergies act up. We can see the shine shinning, but usually put sunglasses on wishing it wasn't so bright. We have senses. We take for granted the little things in life, like the birds singing, different smells, and seeing the beauty in the world around us.

9. Your health.

We wake up with a headache and complain that today is going to be horrible, but we forget that others have serious sicknesses. Our health is important and many days we don't realize how blessed we are. Are health isn't that bad off. We take for granted that we are able to enjoy life. That we aren't too sick to leave our houses.

10. You have opportunities.

No matter what you have done in your life, you will always have opportunities. We are able to change our lives at any point. We aren't trees and we don't have to stay in one spot. We have opportunities and can follow our dreams. We take for granted that we have free will.

We get so caught up in life that we take the little things for granted, but it's the small things that make life worth living.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
