5 Present Possibilities

I think everyone has a hard time around the holidays with what to get family and friends. So, here are a few gift ideas to hopefully help you along with your holiday struggles.

1. Personalized Basket

This is probably my go-to gift if I can't quite pick one thing to get someone. You go to a store like TJMAXX or Marshalls and you get a cute basket and fill it with a bunch of stuff that they'd like; you can even do a themed basket like chocolates and wine. Then, the fun part is just making it look nice, you know "jazzing" it up a bit.

2. Gift Cards

I know they can be boring and seem a little last minute or you feel like it's not sentimental enough, but sometimes you just have to find the right gift card. Like, if you get someone a gift card to their favorite restaurant or coffee place then they know you pay attention when they tell you things they like or dislike, so it's a bit more personal. Also, you can always add something to it. For example, if you're getting a Dunkin Donuts gift card, for instance, you can put it in a Dunkin mug or something.

3. CLOTHES

I mean who doesn't love new clothes!? Especially girls, I mean you really can't go wrong as long as you know what they like. Personally, as I get older I get super excited just getting fuzzy socks and new pajamas to lounge around in. Trust me, if you're shopping for a girl and you're not sure what to get -- pajamas and fuzzy socks are always loved and appreciated.

4. Books

I suppose it depends on the person and whether they read or not, but you can always substitute a book with something similar to accommodate the person you're buying for, like a comic or a magazine.

5. Electronics

I think at this point, anything electronic is well appreciated. You can get something big like a phone or computer, etc... that someone has been wanting or you can get little stuff for electronics that they already have like accessories or new headphones. I mean anything really- you name it.

6. Appliances

This goes more for someone my age buying for a parent. I'm 21 and have a job, so I like to buy my parents presents now since they've done so much for me, and they can always use something new around the house. If you want to go big and you have the money and let's say you need a new vacuum then get them that, or anything necessary that can be used inside the house or for yard work.

7. Pets

Go big or go home I guess, a dog or cat or any kind of pet is like the best present anyone can get. So if you have the money and you love this person above and beyond- definitely get them a pet, it's a sign that you're not going anywhere.

8. Shoes

I'm not particularly a "shoe person" but most people I know are, including guys. So shoes are always great I suppose you can never have too many shoes.

9. Tickets

Any form of tickets really, to someone's favorite concert or show or movie, or even tickets on a vacation- that would be something.

10. Something from the heart

Last but certainly not least, if you're tight on money or you're younger and don't have a job yet but you still want to surprise someone you can never go wrong with making something from the heart. You can make a card, or a homemade ornament, or cookies, or learn to knit and make your mom a scarf... I mean I don't know you can do anything- just be creative! I promise that nothing means more to someone than receiving something hand-crafted and one of a kind made especially for them.

So, I hope this helped and happy holidays!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
