Eight Free Ways to Practice Self Care

In This Article:

Here are eight free ways to practice self care that have worked wonders for my well-being!

1. Read the Books(s) You've Been Meaning To Get To

I've had a stack of books piling up on me for a while now and I made a promise to myself to finally start getting to it! So far I'm on book 4 and I'm loving it!

Reading a chapter before I go to bed has helped me feel more relaxed and I think it's helping me fall asleep better and faster too!

2. Use the Face Masks / Haircare / Skincare Products you Have at Home

You don't need to go to a fancy spa to feel pampered. Use all the products you have at home that you probably forgot about or have been meaning to get to!

If you don't have any product at home, get creative! You can make a face mask out of yogurt, honey, or other kitchen items!

3. Listen to Music to Unwind

Use your spotify, record player or radio at home to listen to some groovy music to unwind! Even just taking 5 or so minutes to listen to one song to pump you up or tone you down can do wonders for your mental health!

4. Cook a Good Meal

It doesn't have to be anything crazy or some complex recipe that will take an hour + to make.

Take the time (even if it's only a few minutes) to prepare a decent meal and you'll feel so much better about your day, whether you're just starting it or winding it down.

5. Cuddle your Furry Friend

If you don't have a dog, I am very sorry, and borrow a friends.

Snuggling your furry friend (or a borrowed one) can make your day infinitely better.

6. Take Five Minutes (Or however many minutes you have/need)

Sometimes, when I'm overwhelmed or stressed out, taking even just five minutes to myself in a separate room or to lie down and ignore the world can change my mood for the day.

It can be something as simple as taking five minutes to sit down and casually drink your coffee instead of being on the run. Self care can be the little things and the little things make all the difference!

7. Re-organize your Room

Organizing or straightening up your room can help change your outlook and mood for the day.

The act of organizing may not be your favorite thing, but having an organized and clean room can improve so much.

8. Reflect on Your Feelings

I just recently bought a book that is a 5 year journal and it gives me a prompt for each day and I can look back and reflect how my answers have changed over a 5 year period.

Now, this cost me money but you don't have to spend anything to reflect on your feelings or start journaling.

Another great tactic is to write your three favorite parts of the day!

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
