Escaping the comfort of our parents and venturing the world on our own once we go to college is equally as frightening as it is wonderful. We have tons to explore and experience, and the world is at our finger tips. This is such a crucial part in our lives, but let's not forget the home that we left behind. Our parents will always be our personal cheerleaders and they want what is best for us. We're old enough now to know right from wrong, but we have to remember that they have been our age once before, too. So what advice do they give us from a grown adults standpoint?
1. Thou shalt pick good friends.
They were there for our first play date and from then on, but now it's our time to shine. Find who you get along best with, who shares your ideas, and who will always be there for you.
2. Thou shalt not spend money on foolish things.
We're already spending a fortune on tuition, 7 for $27 can always wait, and there will always be another edition of Madden.
3. Thou shalt exercise daily.
Staying healthy is vital! Even just a 20-minute power walk works wonders. Get your blood flowing to keep your brain sharp.
4. Thou shalt not skip class.
Self explanatory, everyone. What's the whole point we are attending college, anyway? It's your own fault if you sign up for an 8 a.m.! Go to class!
5. Thou shalt get enough sleep.
Even if you do make it to class, what's the point in sleeping through it? Don't be staying up till 4 a.m. playing video games or worrying about drama. Make sleep a priority.
6. Thou shalt call home daily.
They may seem overly excited to get us out of the house, but deep down we will always be their babies, and they miss us constantly. Check in to let them know how you're doing and remind them how much you appreciate them!
7. Thou shalt take advantage of everything you can.
Experience it all, because you'll never have this time again. They wish they could be 20 years old again and have their youth to do whatever they wanted. We will never be this young again so don't wait around, chase your dreams!
8. Thou shalt not post pictures with adult beverages.
They know you're drinking them, but they also know how workplaces are. A pic with a Bud Light can cost you an awesome internship so don't worry about all the likes you'll get, save it for when you're legal.
9. Thou shalt remember that we are always there for you.
Always have been, always will be.
10. Thou shalt stay true to yourself.
Remember who you are, where you came from, and who you want to be.
Our parents will always have our backs, but it wouldn't hurt to listen to their advice every once in a while, am I right?
