Ten Big Things That Happened In 2013

The year 2013 was one for the books but, then again, what year isn't? The Odyssey Team has pinpointed 10 notable events worth noting that occured in 2013. As you read through our list, think about personal events in your life that are worth remembering. Learn from them, embrace them and make 2014 your year.
1. Super Bowl XLVII blackout. Some say it was because of Beyonce's performance. Don't get us wrong, it was pretty stunning. The 34-minute blackout, according to some, was not a hoax.  Guess fans will never know!
2. Detriot went bankrupt. $18 billion dollars in long term debt sounds like trouble.
3. Institution of Obamacare. If you don't know what Obamacare is, then you've been living under a rock. Countless articles and debates have centered around this issue and it won't be settled for a while to come.
4. Trayvon Martin case. This Florida case that received extreme media coverage. We all know the outcome and opinions are opinions.
5. Royal baby. As if Kate Middleton wasn't perfect enough, she now has a son whose a prince. Don't you wish you could have become that famous when you were born?! Prince George couldn't be more perfect already and he's not even a year old. As usual, Kate looked stunning when she left the hospital.
6. Kim Kardashian gave birth. As if the Kardashians weren't dramatic enough, a new addition named North has been added to the mix. Kanye has decided to keep North off their E Network show, but that doesn't mean she won't make tabloids with her parents, who bask in the spotlight. North, welcome to the big leagues.
7. Government shutdown. Don't you think it's only fair that when we need a break, we can have a personal shutdown? Too bad it doesn't work like that. Good thing the government is back at it, for better or for worse – you decide.
8. Phillipines typhoon. Mother nature can be beautiful and bring us joy but, at the same time, she can do just the opposite. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who have been affected.
9. 50th Anniversary of President Kennedy's assasination. Our generation hasn't been alive long enough to have experience a Presidential assasination. Crazy to think about it.
10. Miley Cyrus. She doesn't even need an explanation.
If this was all in 2013, let's all take a deep breath and brace ourselves for 2014.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
