My mom always told me, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”
We are taught at a young age what is right and wrong and how to act. Yet I feel things in our society have shifted. We don’t carefully watch what we say or do anymore. We want to be able to express how we feel and not be told what to think or say. And this is very important and true. But I am tired of hearing about all the bullying, manipulation, and degradation that is going on in the world, even in our own communities!
Why do we feel the need to constantly put people down and undercut others? We put people down as a way to feel better about ourselves and rise above others. This makes you are no better than anyone else!
We are all human, we all have flaws, struggles, families, and dreams. We are all just trying to make it in this messed up world that we live in. It breaks my heart when I hear stories of people being bullied or mistreated.
I am not saying we are going to get along with everyone all the time; we will disagree and see things differently. But it is how you treat people in those moments that defines what type of person you are. Are you going to treat them with dignity and respect or are you going to try and push yourself up to sound better than them? We are all different and it is those difference that should celebrated not divide us. I don’t care what your differences are: the color of your skin, your likes, dislikes, political opinions, or careers. Treat each other kindly!
Why are we not teaching our kids culture and difference? Why are we letting our children grow up with a sense of entitlement? There are so many hurting people out there and we should be teaching our children to go out and help those less fortunate. If we just took one minute to stop thinking about ourselves and focus on others it would change the world greatly. We get so caught up in money and success and gaining more and more that we forget what really matters. People struggle, they hurt, they need help, the need support and family, if you are just willing to help with what little you have to be a blessing to others it will in turn become a blessing to you.
Selflessness. Why are we not teaching our children selflessness? It is important and it could change the world. Yes lives matter, but, yellow, blue, pink and purples lives matter too! Jesus loves us all, and He made us all. Stop looking at yourself and take time to do something nice for someone else. It doesn’t have to be a lot, but a little gesture can mean a lot to someone.
Stop feeling attacked and like a victim and do something for someone else. Yes, life is hard, but it is hard for everyone in some way at some point. Throw a little kindness at someone.
Chances are, they need it.
